Boxer Carson Jones dies aged 38 following complications with surgery
Former USBA welterweight belt holder Carson Jones has died following complications with surgery, per a report by Marca.
IFL TV announced Jones’ passing on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Carson Jones, the well respected American super-welterweight who fought the likes of Kell Brook, Brian Rose & Ted Cheeseman, has sadly passed away at the age of 38 following complications during GI tract surgery.”
They continued, “All of our thoughts and condolences at IFL are with Carson's family and close friends at this difficult time.”

Jones’ most high-profile fights came against British boxer Kell Brook. With the pair battling it out twice inside the ring. 2012 saw the pair face off in an IBF welterweight title eliminator. Jones displayed his usual battling style, but was unable to overcome Brook’s excellent start to the fight.
Jones’ display against Brook impressed onlookers in the UK, who saw how hard Jones pushed Brook despite the early punishment he faced. As a result, Jones won the 2012 Overseas Fighter of the Year recognition by the British Boxing Board of Control, per World Boxing News.
Jones’ overall record was 40 wins (30 KOs), 13 losses and 3 draws in what was an excellent career.
Per Marca, Jones started to have gastrointestinal issues in 2023, something he went public with as he shared his struggles with fans. He was forced to have surgery on his esophagus as he was unable to eat more than three bites of food a day.
Despite the surgery, Jones’ health struggles continued, with his condition worsening, eventually leading to his death on the 1st of March 2025.
Jones was a respected member of the boxing community, with numerous tributes pouring in following his death. His manager, Sam Jones posted, “Such sad news about Carson Jones,” on social media, whilst fellow boxer Caleb Traux wrote, “Boxing lost a good one, too early.”
Mark Lyson, a respected boxing referee, added his own tribute, writing, “Very sad to hear the news about the passing of Carson Jones at just 38. RIP Champ,” on X.
