The Italian left her home nation to start a new career in lingerie modelling, with some claiming she was attempting to escape issues with her tax returns in Italy, something her lawyers have refuted.

With the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament ongoing, Giorgi took to Instagram to provide a sneak peek to fans of what she is up to know, with The Daily Express reporting she posted a, "captionless mirror selfie to her Instagram story, wearing a pair of denim shorts and a low-cut beige top," which will quiet concerns for her health but hasn't made her future plans any clearer!

Giorgi was born in Macerata, a town in the Marche region of Italy.

Playing tennis since she was five

Tennis was an early passion, and Giorgi took up the sport at just five years old!

Steadily rising through the ranks

The beginning of her career saw her steadily rise through the ranks and work her way up the WTA rankings, reaching world No. 141 in October 2011.

Grand Slam debut

In 2011, she made her Grand Slam debut by advancing out of the Wimbledon qualifiers and losing in the first round to Tsvetana Pironkova.

Fourth round

In 2012, she qualified for Wimbledon for the second year in a row. After defeating Flavia Pennetta, Anna Tatishvili and Nadia Petrova, she faced Agnieszka Radwańska in the fourth round.

Best Grand Slam result so far

Giorgi would lose, but at that time it was the best Grand Slam result in her career. The future looked bright for the Italian.

US Open

In 2013, Giorgi would reach the third round at Wimbledon. At the US Open, she was more successful making it to the fourth round, defeating Caroline Wozniacki in the process.

2014

2014 would be a good year for Giorgi, as she played two WTA finals and rose to world No. 31.

Linz Open

She then won her second WTA title at the Linz Open, ending the year as world No. 26.

Two lost finals

In 2019, Giorgi reached two WTA finals, neither of which she was able to win.

Australian Open

At the 2020 Australian Open, Giorgi reached the third round, repeating her best result in Melbourne. She managed to climb to world No. 75 after a significant drop the previous year.

Tokyo Olympics

In 2021, Giorgi made all of Italy proud by reaching the quarter-finals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Canadian Open

That same year, she then went on to win the Canadian Open title – her biggest tournament victory to date.

French open

In 2022, Giorgi achieved her best ever result at the French Open by reaching the fourth round on the Paris clay. Earlier, she had also re-established herself in the top 30 after reaching the third round at the Australian Open.

Fourth career title

In 2023, Giorgi celebrated her most recent success, winning her fourth career title at the Mérida Open.
