Captain of the Belgian Cheetahs

Camille Laus has been on the international athletics scene for years, but who exactly is the captain of the Belgian Cheetahs? Let's take a look at her career and life off the track. All stats are sourced from World Athletics.

Starting in the 100m and 200m

According to Belgian outlet RTBF, Laus started her career in the 100m and 200m, but is now a specialist in the 400m, a discipline in which she has enjoyed success.

Belgian long jump champion

In 2013, she crowned herself Belgian long jump champion with a 6.03m leap, displaying her diversity as an athlete. She followed that up with a national indoor 400m title in 2018.

More success

In the following years, she won another national indoor 400m title and two outdoor 400m titles, putting herself increasingly in the foreground.

Experimenting with the 800m

In 2023, Laus decided to experiment with the 800m, a distance in which she had not had much experience up to that point. However, this did not prevent her from winning another Belgian title, in 2:05.35.

Relay with the Belgian Cheetahs

For some years now, Laus has been captain and a respected member of the Belgian Cheetahs, the Belgian women's 4×400m relay team, while she has also competed in the country's mixed 4×400m relay team. With the Cheetahs, she narrowly missed out on a medal at the Glasgow 2024 World Indoor Championships, finishing 4th in a new national record.

Tokyo Olympics

In 2021, the Cheetahs took part in the Tokyo Olympics, placing 7th overall. With Belgium's mixed relay team, Laus finished 5th.

Bronze in Chorzów

Laus has won a host of medals at national level, but she won her first international medal for her country in 2023, when she finished third with the mixed 4×400m relay team at the European Team Championships in Chorzów (Poland).

Kevin Borlée

In her private life, Laus is reported to have a relationship with Kevin Borlée, a 400-meter athlete who has been performing at top level for over a decade. Borlée has won multiple European titles and a world indoor title, among other medals.

Coveted athlete

Thanks to her good performances, Laus currently has 187,000 followers on Instagram (and counting) and is a highly-coveted athlete, working together with Hyundai, among other well-respected brands.

Next goal: Paris

She has now set her sight on the Paris Olympics, where she wants to fulfil a dream and win a medal with the Cheetahs. Will she reach that goal? Let us know in the comments!
