According to Football 365, Manchester City were paid £176.2m (€205m, $223m) as champions who had the most games televised last season. In comparison, Southampton finished bottom and received £103.6m (€120m, $130m).

Broadcast deals

The Premier League merits payments on a sliding scale from 1st to 20th, making up combined earnings from domestic and international broadcast deals. The domestic payment is equal for all teams, earning £31m (€36m, $40m) each.

£3.1 million difference

According to TalkSport, the difference between each position last season was £3.1m (€3.62m, $3.9m). Football 365 estimates Man City will earn £62.1m (€72m, $78m) for finishing first and Arsenal will earn £59m (€69m, $74m).

Facility fees

The only other part of the prize money that isn't fixed and shared equally is the facility fees, which are based on how many times each club has been selected for television.

Making a difference

This means even if a team finishes higher in the league, they can still get paid less than a team lower than them if they are on TV more. For example, last season Everton finished 17th (£120.5m, €140m, $152m), and Bournemouth finished 15th(£117.5m, €136m, $148m).

30 games for Arsenal

This season, Arsenal had the most televised games (30), worth around £26m (€30m, $33m) last year. Manchester City had 27 games shown, which earned £23.6m (€27m, $29m).

Come so close

With £3m (€3.5m, $3.8m) in difference for the facility fees, Arsenal are set to match Manchester City in total prize money for the campaign but come so close to hitting a record amount had they pipped City to the title.
