Future in doubt

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's future at the club is severely in doubt after their worst start to a Premier League season following a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.

Terrible start

United sits 14th in the Premier League table, with eight points and a goal difference of -3. They have scored five goals this season, with Southampton only scoring less.

A replacement?

Ten Hag has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks due to a lack of points, goals, and joyous performances, and the Daily Mail reports that United could be lining up a new replacement.

Hierarchy meeting

United's senior hierarchy, including part-owner Jim Ratcliffe, is hosting a long-standing meeting on October 8th, and Ten Hag's future is the main topic of discussion.

Thomas Tuchel

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are heavily focused on acquiring former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.

Considered in the summer

The most successful club in English football considered Tuchel in the summer after he departed from Bayern Munich, but the club chose to trigger Ten Hag's one-year extension.

Could Tuchel transform them?

However, after seven games with two wins and having their worst league start since 1989-90 when they went on to finish 13th with Sir Alex Ferguson, could Tuchel be the man to transform Manchester United?

His pedigree

Tuchel has the pedigree to manage the best teams in the world. In his first season in England, he won the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea.

A winner

The German manager has coached Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea, winning multiple league titles in France and one in Germany. He was also awarded the FIFA Best Coach award in 2021.

The better option

Tuchel seems a much better option to take Manchester United forward than Ten Hag, and owner Jim Ratcliffe refused to fully back Ten Hag before United's clash against Aston Villa.

"It's not my call"

According to the BBC, Ratcliffe said: "I like Erik. I think he's a very good coach, but at the end of the day, it's not my call." He added: "It's the management team running Manchester United that has to decide how we best run the team in many different respects."

“Our objective is very clear”

"Our objective is very clear. We want to take Manchester United back to where it should be, and it's not there yet — that's very clear."

Who else could United appoint?

If Thomas Tuchel doesn't get appointed if Ten Hag is dismissed, who else could be in line to take over the reins at the club?

Gareth Southgate

After leading England to successive European Championship finals and rejuvenating the country's hope in their national team, does Gareth Southgate deserve a shot at managing one of the biggest clubs in the world?

Ruud van Nistelrooy

Or could it be new Manchester United coach Ruud van Nistelrooy who could take the club further? The Dutchman played for United in one of their most successful periods and understands what it takes to be successful at Old Trafford.

Kieran McKenna

Kieran McKenna built his reputation as a top coach in the younger age groups and as a first-team coach of Manchester United. After helping Ipswich Town to back-to-back promotions to the Premier League, does he have a chance of taking the job?
