Every year, fans love to debate about who the best QB in the NFL is, with different stats and metrics being used to decide who comes out on top. We are using a combination of stats and the eye test to decide our rankings (which are 100% correct so no point arguing!)

15: Baker Mayfield

We were down on Mayfield for most of the season, but he managed to drag his Bucs team to the NFC Divisional Round and nearly beat the Lions to make the championship game. His play was at such a high level his OC Dave Canales is being interviewed for head coaching roles, per NFL.com!

14: Justin Herbert

Herbert was very good for most of the year before missing some time with an injury, still, this was a down year for a player usually amongst the best in the league at his position.

13:Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence hasn’t shown the consistency of an elite QB through the first few years of his career, but when Fox Sports is asking whether it is a “grave mistake,” by Doug Pederson to keep OC Press Taylor around, we can start to see why he has struggled at times.

12: Derek Carr

Carr has spent most of his career around the middle of the pack as a QB, and 2023 was no different, leading the Saints to a 9-8 record whilst throwing for 19 TDs and just 4 picks in the second half of the season according to Sportsnaut.com.

11: Jalen Hurts

Hurts played some great football at times in 2023, but a knee injury and too many turnovers knocked him down in the rankings. His 1 interceptions were as many as he threw in the previous two years combined.

10: Tua Tagovailoa

When healthy, there are few offenses more exciting than the Dolphins, and a big reason for that is Tua Tagovailoa's ability to find his read and get the ball to him quickly. He just can’t put his team on his back when they need him most, but Miami could do much worse than keep him around.

9: Jared Goff

Jared Goff has found his niche in Ben Johnson’s offense and is one win away from leading the Lions to their first-ever Super Bowl, per the LA Times. Like Tua, he conducts the offense rather than leads it, but that is a skill in itself and one he is exceptional at.

8: Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy is much better than we gave him credit for earlier in the season and has played some great football at times, but there are too many interceptable passes at times, and much like Tua and Goff, he is best working within the offense. Still, Purdy is a very good NFL QB, there is no doubt about it.

7: Matthew Stafford

If you saw a highlight reel of Stafford’s best throws in 2023, you would walk away assuming he was the greatest of all time. His side-arm, tight-window throws are things of beauty and was a big reason behind the Rams’ making the playoffs.

6: Jordan Love

NFL.com has Love ranked as their 11th-best QB, which we think is far too low. His 32 TD passes ranked second in the NFL, as reported by NFL.com, and his performance against Dallas in the playoffs was unbelievably good.

5: C.J. Stroud

As Steven Ruiz of The Ringer wrote back in November, “C.J. Stroud is having one of the best rookie seasons ever. And he’s just getting started.” Stroud blew everyone’s expectations out of the water in his first season in the NFL, passing for 4,108 yard, 23 TDs, and just five INTs, per NFL.com.

4: Dak Prescott

It’s fun to clown on the Cowboys at times, but it is important to acknowledge just how good Dak was for most of 2023. He led the league with 36 passing TDs with a passer rating of 105.9, per NFL.com. Dak is a really, really good QB, but he’s not great, which may be what the Cowboys need.

3: Patrick Mahomes

We think Mahomes is the greatest QB to ever play the game, no disrespect to the GOAT Tom Brady of course, but Mahomes does things no one else can dream of. This season wasn’t always smooth sailing with two of his main targets having a 16.3% and 15.8% drop rates at one point in the year, as stated by CBS Sports’ Heath Cummings.

2: Josh Allen

Yes, Allen lost to Mahomes in the playoffs again, and yes Mahomes has been better over the course of his career, but that doesn’t stop Allen from being great. He plays like every down is the Super Bowl-deciding play and that competitiveness drives the Bills deep into the playoffs nearly every year.

1: Lamar Jackson

Per FoxSports.com Lamar is the favorite to win the NFL MVP award, and from our point of view, it couldn’t be more deserved. He is a QB unlike any other in the NFL, and his stat line proves it, rushing for nearly 200 yards more than Justin Fields in second place, per FFToday. He is the best player on the best team in football, so far, and deserves every plaudit he gets.
