A look ahead

Mock drafts are fun, especially at this point of the NFL season, when a could portion of NFL fan bases will be checking out of the 2024 season and looking ahead to the future. Let’s take a look at who your team could be selecting next April. Draft order based on Super Bowl odds at the time of writing.

17: Pittsburgh Steelers - Emeka Egbuka

The Steelers need more offensive weaponry beyond George Pickens, and Egbuka seems like he would match Pittsburgh’s ideal receiver profile.

18: New Orleans Saints - Landon Jackson

The Saints could pair Jackson with Bryan Bresee along their defensive front in passing downs and use Jackson on the outside in their base defense. He’s versatile and huge, standing at 6’7”, 280lbs, which fits what the Saints like from their defensive linemen.

19: New York Jets - Malaki Starks

Starks is an aggressive, ball-hawking safety who should have plenty of opportunities to make plays on the ball in the Jets defense. CBS Sports has mocked the Jets a quarterback, but we don’t think that makes sense this early.

20: Washington Commanders - Ashton Jeanty

Jeanty is a ridiculous player who could end up being a top-10 pick when it’s all said and done. For now, we have him pairing up with Jayden Daniels in Washington in what could become one of the most exciting offenses in football.

21: Cincinnati Bengals - Cameron Williams

The Bengals have the biggest offensive line in football and could add to it with Cameron Williams from Texas, who weighs in well over 330lbs per ESPN. The Bengals’ OL is improving, but it’s one group that can never be good enough.

22: Atlanta Falcons - Walter Nolen

The Falcons could look at a defensive end here instead of a DT. Either way, the defensive line is the obvious area to target given their struggles so far this season. Nolen is “one explosive defensive tackle who has been treating guards like rag dolls in the run game all season,” per CBS Sports. If he can develop a pass rush, he could be dominant.

23: Green Bay Packers - Harold Perkins

The Packers are another team that could use help in their pass rush, and Perkins could be that guy. He is missing most of 2024 with an ACL tear that could see his draft stock fall, but he was being spoken about as a top-10 pick before the season started.

24: Dallas Cowboys - Isaiah Bond

Texas has produced a number of NFL-quality receivers in recent years, and Bond is the next one off the conveyor belt. The Cowboys need to get some help for CeeDee Lamb in their receiving corps, and Bond’s speed could open up the rest of the field.

25: Philadelphia Eagles - James Pearce Jr.

Don’t be surprised to see the Eagles look at offensive tackle here, with Lane Johnson entering the final stages of his career. However, the more pressing need is pass rush, which is something Pearce should offer in abundance.

26: Minnesota Vikings - Shavon Revel

Give the best defense in football a 6’3” cornerback who’s good at taking away the football. Why not? Brian Flores deserves whatever he wants in Minnesota.

27: Houston Texans - Jack Sawyer

The Texans can let Sawyer learn from Danielle Hunter for a couple of seasons before unleashing him alongside Will Anderson Jr. to form what could be an unblockable pass-rush tandem. We wouldn’t hate them taking a WR here if one were to fall.

28: Buffalo Bills - Tre Harris

Please draft a wide receiver for Josh Allen. Keon Coleman is a talented player, but it’s asking too much of him to be the sole wide receiver opposing defenses care about. NFL Draft Buzz describe Harris as, “a chain-moving X-receiver with plus red-zone chops at the next level,” which sounds like a perfect fit for Buffalo.

29: Detroit Lions - Tyleik Williams

The Lions will probably do something entirely out of left field here only for it to work out despite receiving criticism from the media, as is their wont. Williams is big and strong and should be able to occupy blockers for Aidan Hutchinson, presuming he can recover from what looked to be a nasty leg break.

30: San Francisco 49ers - Princely Umanmielen

The Niners’ defensive line is heavily reliant on Nick Bosa in its current form, which is fine as Bosa is elite. Adding Princely Umanmielen will take some of the pressure off Bosa and hopefully add a new weapon to a defense that will need an injection of youth over the next couple of seasons.

31: Baltimore Ravens - Jonah Savaiinaea

Daniel Faalele is currently ranked 48th out of 101 offensive guards per Pro Football Focus, making it an area in need of an upgrade for the Ravens. Jonah Savaiinaea has mostly played tackle in college, but he could slide inside to guard in the NFL.

32: Kansas City Chiefs - Colston Loveland

Everywhere you look, the Chiefs are being mocked Colston Loveland and it makes sense. Travis Kelce is clearly not the player he was, even if he will inevitably become a monster in the playoffs once again. Loveland is the best tight end in the draft and a dynamic playmaker, making this a perfect fit.
