London's Calling: Who are the best teams in baseball as the MLB goes to London?
The Phillies take on the Mets in a two-game series in London at the appropriately named London Stadium. One of those teams will be appearing somewhere on this list, the other is the New York Mets, but let's take a look at who else makes it to the top-15 teams in the MLB!
The defending World Series champions are struggling offensively, hitting 15th in average, 12th in OBP, and 15th in Slugging, per ESPN. Those are middle-of-the-pack numbers for a team that needs them to be elite.
The Giants played the Yankees and Phillies in back-to-back series and were mostly unscathed, taking two wins off the Phils. And then, just like that, LaMonte Wade Jr. looks set to miss four weeks with a hamstring strain per AP News. Things just aren’t going their way.

Per MLB Media, the Cubs have the third-worst record in baseball since May 13th, ahead of only the Mets and the White Sox yet boast the third-best ERA in the National League, per ESPN. There might be one side of the ball letting the other down.
The Sox sit 31-31 at the time of writing and are 12.5 games back on the Yankees, which could give you an idea of who one of the top teams on our rankings might be. The Sox look like a good team, but their injury list is mounting.
ESPN and Bradford Doolittle ranked the Mariners ninth in their recent power rankings but then proceeded to write, “The Mariners are in first place in the AL West even though they really aren't that great at anything,” which is why we have them a few spots lower.
Per Yahoo Sports, the Padres have placed both Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove on the 15-day injured list as they enter a stretch of 13 games in 13 days. Not many teams are capable of dealing with missing two starters from their rotation, let alone two lefties.
The Twins sit five games over .500 and are still seven and a half games back in the AL Central. If it wasn’t such a competitive division, we might be viewing the Twins a little differently, but for now, they’re in third place and need to string series wins together to reign in the teams ahead of them.
The Braves needed to take advantage of the Phillies' slightly slow couple of weeks, instead, they went 5-5 in their last 10. They are, of course, still a formidable matchup for almost anyone on their day, but as Ben Verlander writes for Fox Sports, “this is the worst I remember Atlanta playing since we started "Flippin' Bats" in 2021.”

The Royals went 3-7 in their last 10 and are now five games back to the Guardians, which just shows how hot Cleveland is.
Per Jesse Rogers for ESPN, the Brewers have eight different players with at least five home runs. That offensive variety has helped them win eight out of their last 10 and extend their lead in the NL Central to seven games. Getting swept by the Phillies in Philly is tough, but there's no many teams who can expect to do better.
The five best teams in baseball are all looking incredibly good so far this season, making it brutally difficult to rank them. But, rank them we did, and the 40–20 Guardians ended up in fifth. Per ESPN, the Guardians currently lead the AL with runs scored. If they can keep that up, no one will want to face them in October.
You would think losing both John Means and Tyler Wells to UCL injuries would have slowed Baltimore down, but per MLB Media, their replacements, Cole Irvin and Albert Suárez have ERAs of 2.84 and 1.57 respectively, which is keeping the Os amongst the best teams in baseball.
The Dodgers battled through a five-game losing streak, winning five of their last six to open the gap at the top of the NL West to seven games. Who’s going to bet against them making a deep playoff run? Not us, that’s for sure.
Ben Verlander puts it well when he described Aaron Judge as, “the best player in baseball in May. Juan Soto might have been the second-best.” The Bronx Bombers are 23 games over .500 and are still somehow only three and a half games up on the Os in second place. The AL East will be must-watch TV all season.
The Phillies sit 25 games over .500 as they continue to grind out wins even when their incredible offensive production hits a low. A 3-0 sweep of an excellent Brewers team is the perfect way to prepare for their London games, can anyone stop them?
