Spain emerged victorious from Euro 2024, while England once again had to settle for the runners-up spot. UEFA sparked a final post-tournament controversy, choosing a Euro 2024 best XI that has caused outrage among fans from all participating countries.

'Experts'

The best team of the tournament has been selected by a committee of experts consisting of Aljoša Asanović (Croatia), Rafael Benítez (Spain), Frank de Boer (Netherlands), Packie Bonner (Republic of Ireland), Fabio Capello (Italy), Jean-François Domergue (France), Avram Grant (Israel), Aitor Karanka (Spain), Ioan Lupescu (Romania), David Moyes (Scotland), Michael O'Neill (Northern Ireland) and Ole Gunnar Solskjær (Norway).

6 Spaniards

Experts who have managed to anger an entire continent, despite the fact that they included six players from European champions Spain: Cucurella, Fabián, Rodrigo, Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.

The forgotten ones

But where are Carvajal, Laporte and Unai Simon? They have been key to Spain's fourth European trophy, in particular the Real Madrid full-back.

Dubious line-up

In their place, UEFA's best XI includes Mike Maignan (France), Kyle Walker (England), Manuel Akanji (Switzerland), William Saliba (France) and Jamal Musiala (Germany).

Giorgi Mamardashvili

Let's start between the posts, where UEFA could have chosen Unai Simon, but also the best goalkeeper of the tournament: Giorgi Mamardashvili (Georgia).

Dodgy defence

In defence, the comments have been mostly against Walker, with many considering that he was England's the worst player of the tournament. Players like Koundé, Pepe or Guehi are also suggested to be part of the back four.

What about Jude?

In midfield, many want to include Jude Bellingham, although it would be difficult to leave out one of the three Spaniards chosen.

Musiala?

The same can be said of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, who cannot be left out. However, the choice for Musiala as a centre-forward leaves some fans in doubt.

Cody Gakpo

It is Liverpool's Cody Gakpo who receives the most support to replace the skilful German forward. Be that as it may, it is clear that this UEFA XI has drawn more criticism than support. What do you think?
