As the NFL season starts to wind down, so do the temperatures, with teams checking the weather report just as much as checking what other teams are doing in preparation for the game.

Throughout history, there have been cold games during the NFL Playoffs, but these games on this list will send a shiver down your back just thinking about them.

(5) New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers (January 2008)

The home of the Green Bay Packers, Lambeau Field, is known for its extreme weather conditions, and in January 2008, their game with the New York Giants was played at -4 with a wind chill of -24 degrees.

New York victory

Playing in New York, the Giants were used to the extreme cold weather anyway and walked away from the game as 23-20 winners in the NFC Championship game. After the win, the Giants secured a Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

(4) Kansas City Chiefs vs Miami Dolphins (January 2024)

The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins last week was the fourth coldest game in NFL history and a game where running the ball was at the forefront. it dropped to -9 degrees and felt like -28.

Mahomes getting it done

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes finished the game with 262 yards and a touchdown, while Travis Kelce finished with 71 yards on seven receptions. The Chiefs won the game 26-7 to carry on their title defense.

 

(3) Seattle Seahawks vs Minnesota Vikings (January 2016)

It was bitterly close and bitterly cold in the NFC wildcard game between Seattle and Minnesota as Seattle edged the contest out 9-10 in -6 temperature and -25 degrees wind chill.

Missing the kick

It's a game the Minnesota Vikings wanted to forget in an instant, with kicker Blair Walsh missing a 27-yard field goal to make the score 12-10 with 22 seconds left.

(2) San Diego Chargers vs Cincinnati Bengals (January 1982)

The 1981 AFC Championship game, dubbed the 'Freezer Bowl,' was the second coldest game in NFL history, with a temperature of -9 degrees and a wind chill of -59 degrees.

Struggling to cope

It was no shock the team from San Diego struggled to deal with the adverse weather conditions, with the Bengals winning 27-7 in front of 46,000 fans.

(1) Dallas Cowboys vs Green Bay Packers (December 1967)

The game, dubbed the 'Ice Bowl,' was between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers and was the coldest game ever recorded, with a crisp temperature of -13 and a wind chill of -48.

A fan died

Unfortunately, due to the harsh weather conditions, one elderly fan died at the game. Green Bay won the game 21-17, but some of the players suffered from frostbite that gave them nerve damage for the rest of their lives.
