Athlete dramatically drowns at CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, Texas
An athlete has drowned during the CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, Texas, per CBS News. TMZ has claimed the athlete was Lazar Dukic from Serbia, this has not been confirmed by CrossFit.
CBS has reported the athlete was nearing the end of their swimming leg in the Marine Creek Reservoir at around 8am CST, when they went underwater.

Despite having members of staff on paddle boards in the reservoir, the athlete’s disappearance wasn’t seen.

Don Faul, the CrossFit CEO announced the death in a press conference, saying his organization was, “deeply saddened,” by the death, per TMZ.
He continued, “We're doing everything in our power during this tragic time to support the family, to support our community,” what that entails remains unclear at this stage.

TMZ has reported there were no members of the local fire department in attendance, but they arrived shortly after the athlete’s disappearance.
Once at the scene, the fire crews used a drone and a dive team to locate the body.

TMZ has also reported a fellow athlete, Cole Learn, was close to the incident and attempted to call for help from lifeguards on the scene, but they were too far away to hear his pleas.

Following the drowning, all events were canceled for the rest of the day, whether CrossFit will allow the rest of the Games to go ahead is still unclear.

Per a local CBS News affiliate, CrossFit has scrubbed any mention of the rest of the Games’ schedule from their website, with the organization’s next steps unclear.
