Carlos Alcaraz's Wimbledon victory: How much did he earn?

Carlos Alcaraz triumphed in the final of Wimbledon 2024 with an overwhelming victory over his Serbian rival, Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz joined Federer in becoming the first player to win his first four Grand Slam finals, two of which were against Djokovic.

After beating Djokovic in three sets, Alcaraz snatched a jaw-dropping prize of 3,214,944 euros (£2.6m/$3.5m) according to the newspaper Marca. By being a finalist at Wimbledon, the Serbian also cashed in a prize of 1,667,008 euros (£1.3m/$1.8m).

In addition to the sum in money, the young Spaniard also broke a few records. According to CNN, by beating Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), Alcaraz became the first Spaniard to win Wimbledon twice in a row and defend his crown... Not even Nadal was able to do it.

As reported by 20minutos, Carlos Alcaraz also became the youngest player to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.

At 21 years old, the Spaniard joined Rod Laver (he did it when he was 30 years old in 1969), Björn Borg (when he was 22 years old), Rafa Nadal (22 years old), Federer (27 years old) and Djokovic (34 years old).

Roland Garros has also left Alcaraz a few million euros in his pocket. In 2024, the French clay court tournament awarded the Spaniard 2.4 million euros (£2m/$2.6m), 4.35% more than last year's winner, according to El Mundo.

Marca reports that, so far, the young man has managed to accumulate 34,793,569 euros (£28m/$38m) in tournament rewards, of which 7,767,421 euros (£6.4m/$8.4m) correspond to the current season.

Even so, Alcaraz is far from being the player who has earned the most from tennis. His opponent in the Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic, is the tennis player who has accumulated the most prize money. At 37 years old, he has earned 168,963,066 euros (£138m/$180m), according to Marca.

However, Alcaraz is only getting started. After the final, he shared during an interview: “At the end of my career, I want to sit at the same table as the greats. It doesn't matter if I already won four Grand Slams at the age of 21. If I don't keep going, all these tournaments won't matter to me. I will try to continue winning.”

Carlos Alcaraz was the youngest number 1 in the world ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in history. He achieved this in September 2022 at 19 years old and remained number 1 in the world until mid-January 2023. He is currently in third place in the ATP rankings.
