Carjacking after the match against Le Havre

It's been a complicated season for Olympique Marseille, who failed to secure a place in Europe next year, despite their 2-1 win at Le Havre. After the match, things went horribly wrong when two players suffered a carjacking attempt, according to BFM TV.

Close to Marseille's training base

Jean Onana (24) and Faris Moumbagna (23) were on their way back from La Commanderie, Marseille's training centre, after the match against Le Havre on Sunday evening.

On their way home

The incident took place close to OM's training grounds, according to BFM TV. The two players had just collected their car from La Commanderie, also known as the Centre d'Entraînement Robert Louis-Dreyfus, and were on their way home.

That's when the two players came under fire and their cars were riddled with bullets. Fortunately, the two men accelerated and managed to escape.

Extremely shocked

According to a police source, three bullet holes were found, two on one vehicle and a third on the other. Although the players returned home safe and sound, they are extremely shocked, according to a source at BFM TV. OM have yet to make a statement, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Attackers on the run

An investigation has been opened and, for the moment, it is not known how many men attempted to attack the vehicles of Jean Onana and Faris Moumbagna. The suspects are currently on the run.

Bamo Meïté witnessed the scene

A third OM player, Bamo Meïté, was following them closely but was not targeted, riding in a club vehicle.

Faris Moumbagna, OM's hero against Benfica

Faris Moumbagna (pictured) only arrived at Marseille this winter and scored in the Europa League quarter-final against Benfica on 18 April, per Sofascore.

Jean Onana

Another Cameroonian, Jean Onana (photo), also joined Marseille this winter on loan from Turkish club Besiktas. The midfielder has made 14 appearances for Marseille this season, according to Transfermarkt.

Ongoing investigation

An investigation is underway to find the assailants responsible for the horrific attack that shocked French football.
