Sergio Brown, a former safety for the Patriots, Colts, Jaguars, and Bills has pleaded not-guilty to first-degree murder charges following the death of his mother last year, per TMZ.

Deported

Sergio Brown went missing

Before Brown was named as a suspect, he disappeared, with friends and family unable to track down his whereabouts.

Missing persons report

Initially, police in the Chicago suburb of Maywood responded to a missing persons report for Myrtle Brown, entering her property as part of a wellness check.

Found by a creek

Upon entering her property, Myrtle was discovered by a creek where she was transported to a medical examiner who determined she had been assaulted and killed.

Sergio’s brother speaks out

Sergio’s brother, Nick, spoke on Instagram in the wake of his mother’s discovery, pleading for any information on the whereabouts of Sergio.

Nick’s statement

In his statement at the time, Nick said, “If you have any information on Sergio's whereabouts please send them to the Maywood Police Department. It's a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together”

Sergio’s response

According to a Chicago Fox News affiliate, Sergio responded to claims around his location with an Instagram message from Mexico.

“Fake news”

He would go on to claim his mother’s murder was “fake news” and that she was on vacation with him in Mexico during the time of the murder.

Police statement

Following Brown's disappearance Maywood Police told NBC News, “Currently this is an active investigation, and the department is unable to share any further details at this time. We appreciate your patience while our agency continues to investigate the matter.”

Developments

A neighbor of Myrtle’s, Carlos Cortez claimed to have seen Sergio and Myrtle together days before the murder took place, he claimed he had spoken to members of the Brown family who had told him, “They said he wasn't himself the last few months. He was out of his mind.”

Video evidence

Cortez also claimed to have a video from his Ring doorbell showing Brown burning his mother’s clothes. “They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes”, Cortez said.

Video turned over to the police

Cortez turned all available information over to the police who will use it as part of their investigation.

Not a person of interest

Brown was initially not listed as a person of interest, but as the police found more evidence, he became the lead suspect, eventually being charged for the murder.
