From Presidents to Popstars, the history of baseball's best and worst celebrity first pitches!

America's Pastime is nearly back in full swing. with Opening Day just around the corner. Before we know it, we'll be in the Dog Days of Summer with a hot dog in hand watching baseball under a hot August sun. Something to keep an eye on this year is the quality of celebrity first pitches, we've taken a look over the best and worst in history!

The ceremonial first pitch is well over a century old at this point, but it wasn’t until Ronald Reagan in the 1980s that the celebrity pitcher stood on the pitcher’s mound. Throughout the years there have been hundreds of ceremonial first pitches, so here’s a few good and a few bad.

When you have 7 Olympic medals under your belt, including 4 golds, you are well within your rights to show off. That’s exactly what the celebrated gymnast did, completing a full flip before pitching the ball during a Houston Astros world series game.

Never one to let an opportunity slide, Murray decided to take off running instead of throwing his first pitch, heading around the bases before sliding into home.

With the eyes of the world on him, on one of the most emotional nights in US sports history, then President Bush would step up to the mound before a 2001 World Series game in New York City and deliver an absolute strike.

Like Bill Murray, Will Ferrell knows how to work a crowd and before his first pitch at a Cubs game in 2012 he got the home crowd pumped by getting some Chicago-style deep-dish pizza delivered to the mound.

There have been many robots to throw out first pitches, but few as emotionally charged as this one. In 2013, Google created a robot that would allow Nick LeGrande, in Kansas City, to throw a first pitch at an Oakland A’s game. LeGrande was a young baseball player forced to give up the sport due to a life-threatening illness. Once this story was told there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

There possibly isn’t a huge crossover between baseball fanatics and lovers of contemporary circus performers, but Cirque Du Soleil knows how to put on a show, and they certainly did that with their first pitch here.

Just a few weeks after surviving the deadly bombing at the Boston Marathon, Jeff Bauman and Carlos Arredondo walked out onto Fenway Park to throw out the first pitch for the Red Sox. A truly iconic moment for a city just coming to terms with what had happened.

The best first pitches include emotionally charged moments and charming comedians entertaining the crowd and having some fun along the way. The worst first pitches usually come from someone throwing a wild pitch or from someone so unrelated to the sport the crowd isn’t sure whether to cheer or boo.

As one of the most popular rappers from the 2000s and now an incredibly successful businessman, it would be understandable that 50 didn’t have much time to practice. Maybe this explains why he not only missed the batter’s box but barely even threw it forwards, much to the disbelief of the Mets fans.

The ball seemed stuck in Jepsen’s hand as she attempted the first pitch before a Rays game, slipping out and slowly rolling into what is presumably a very expensive camera positioned to record the moment.

The popular DJ really put the effort in for his first pitch, giving himself a quick warmup and a huge windup, Aoki then launched the ball over the catcher’s head and deep into the fans behind home plate. Not the best pitch Fenway Park has ever seen.
