Masters 2024

After a turbulent 2023 season, having missed three of golf's four major tournaments, GOAT Tiger Woods returned to The Masters in 2024, a tournament he has won on five occasions.

Started so well

After months off to prepare his body for the 2024 season, Woods opened his round on the 11th of April with a birdie on the first and eventually made the cut after posting a score of +1 and being seven shots behind the leader.

All falls down

According to Fox News, after making the cut for a record 24th time, Woods showed his frailties in his third round, shooting his worst ever round at Augusta.

+10

After being in contention of potentially winning his sixth green jacket, Woods shot a score of 82 (+10) on April 13th, beating his previous worst score of 78.

Terrible front nine

The Masters website reported that Woods bogeyed the fourth and sixth holes before two double bogeys on the seventh and eighth and finishing the front nine with a bogey.

No chance of winning

Woods' calamitous round continued on the back nine, making four straight bogeys' before parring the 18th. He finished his round 17 shots behind the lead.

Worst performance yet

Woods finished The Masters with a career worst +16 after his Sunday's round, finishing off the tournament with a +5.

Should he retire?

After such a terrible round and the visible tiredness on the GOAT's face, is it time for Tiger Woods to finish his professional golfing career?

Not been the same

At The Masters tournament in 2022, Woods scored 78 in the third and fourth round, his first tournament back after suffering serious injuries in a car accident.

Already wants to retire

In February 2024, the Daily Mail reported that a source close to Woods had told them that the golfing GOAT already wanted to retire, but he couldn't, due to business ventures and endorsements.

'Sun Day Red'

In the same month, Woods launched his clothing line called 'Sun Day Red' with TaylorMade after separating from Nike at the turn of the year. Is his new apparel line the reason he is sticking around?

"His body is beat up"

According to The Mirror, the alleged insider said: "If Tiger could retire, he would. His body is beat up but, for his brand, he still has to make and keep appearances and make a go at it."

"Love nothing more than to retire"

"He will be back because he has to support his new brand, 'Sun Day Red,' and everything else in his world. He'll be back, even though he would love nothing more than to retire."

Playing once a month

In December 2023, Woods signalled his intentions of playing one tournament every month, but his limitations and injury struggles have shown through at his first tournament back.

A GOAT

Woods is one of the most recognizable athletes to ever exist, bringing golf into the mainstream with unbelievable success, having won 15 majors and over 80 PGA tournaments in his career.

Ridiculous stretch

National Club Golfer reported that between 1997 and 2013, Woods was a combined 126 under par in major championships. Among players to play 90 or more rounds in that time, Steve Flesch was the closest to Tiger at 125 over par.

Is his time up?

After one of the greatest careers in sport, is it time for Tiger Woods to retire to protect the legacy he has created in golf?
