Egyptian football star Ahmed Refaat tragically dies at 31
According to France24 and other sources, Egyptian footballer Ahmed Refaat has passed away on Saturday 6 July 2024.
Refaat is said to have died from "complications following a heart attack he suffered four months ago during a match," per France24, via Modern Future FC, Refaat's club.
Refaat had been fitted with a pacemaker after the incident and had been sidelined ever since.

Refaat was a winger who had been playing for Modern Future FC since early 2023, when he re-joined the club following a loan spell with Abu Dhabi's Al-Wahda.
In the past, he was also a member of the Egyptian national football team, having scored 2 goals in 7 appearances, according to Transfermarkt. He played his last match for his country in 2022, a friendly against South Korea.
Refaat was born on 20 June 1993 in Kafr El-Sheikh and started his pro career with Enppi SC, before moving to Egyptian top club Zamalek in 2016.
After that, he played for Ittihad Alex (loan), El Masry, Modern Future and Al-Wahda (loan).
According to Transfermarkt, Refaat played 211 official matches in his career, scoring 46 goals and providing 40 assists.
Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah (pictured) has reacted to Refaat's death by posting a broken heart on X, formerly known as Twitter.
According to France24, Refaat had visited his teammates a few days before his passing. Unfortunately, he will not be able to rejoin them on the pitch in the future. RIP.
