NFL Quarterback Rankings ahead of Week Seven

The NFL is a quarterback’s league, with the position being the most important individual position in sports. How a quarterback plays is usually predictive of how well a team is going, but who are the top QBs in the league through six weeks of the 2024 NFL season? All statistics provided by ESPN unless otherwise stated.

Cousins started slowly in Atlanta but has come on in recent weeks and looked closer to his best self. He has a variety of weapons in the passing game, and he is happy targeting any of them. Kirk has long been a very good regular-season QB, it’s just his performances in crunch time that have been an issue. Could this be the year that changes?

Purdy is arguably playing better than last year, even if the statistics don’t look quite as gaudy. His ability to make plays out of nothing is invaluable to the Niners. He has made some bad throws which have led to turnovers, which he will be hoping to avoid moving forward.

Goff’s season has been highlighted by his 18-18 performance in week five against the Seahawks, which was remarkable. Goff also leads the league in yards per attempt at 8.9 which is also impressive. The knock on Goff remains that he’s a system QB, which is true, but what else is he supposed to do?

As Cody Benjamin wrote for CBS Sports, “Love tends to offset most of his most puzzling throws with unteachably impressive ones,” which does lead to some interceptions. Overall, though, his play is nearing the elite level. He has thrown six picks so far this year, which is a few too many, given he missed some time.

Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in football, but he isn’t playing like it right now. The Chiefs remain undefeated in large part due to his play, even if his untimely interceptions have made games closer than they should’ve been. We know he will turn it on come the postseason, so there’s no need to be worried yet.

There’s a good argument that Mayfield should be higher than this, given his stellar play through six weeks. For now, though, we’re happy with him at five, but we’ll be more than happy to bump him up the rankings if he continues to play well. He leads the league with 15 TDs and has only thrown five picks so far, it’s been impressive.

Stroud hasn’t been putting up the unfathomably good numbers of his rookie year, but his play has been even better. His 331-yard performance against the Bills was a clinic (interception aside) and he showed he doesn’t need Nico Collins with another big performance against the Pats with his number-one receiver out.

The Bengals haven’t been good this year through six weeks, but it’s tough to lay any of the blame at Burrow’s feet. So far he has thrown for 12 TDs to just 2 picks as well as adding a 47-yard rushing TD against the Giants, who knew he had that in him? It’s good to see Burrow back playing somewhere near his best.

The Bills are 4-2 in large part due to Josh Allen. His 10 TD tosses (and three on the ground) have come at the cost of zero turnovers so far, which is very much not the Josh Allen experience we know and love. Now the Bills have added Amari Cooper, life might get a whole lot easier for Allen and the Bills passing game.

With 1,529 yards passing, 10 TDs, 2 INTs plus 403 yards rushing, and another couple of scores, Lamar is putting up numbers that could well earn him another MVP award. Cody Benjamin sums it up well for CBS Sports, “This guy won MVP in 2023, and he looks even worthier of the honor right now.” He’s a freak, and adding Derrick Henry has made him essentially unstoppable.
