The best pictures from the 2024 NBA Draft’s first round

Time will tell with regard to whether or not players selected in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft will become stars. However, the moments that took place during the evening will never be forgotten by the players or their families. We'll take a look at some of the most memorable images from the night.

Zaccharie Risacher, Alexandre Sarr and Rob Dillingham might be the three most discussed players coming out of the first round of the draft. Risacher and Sarr were the first two picks of the draft, while Dillingham was involved in a surprising trade. Dillingham will play for the Minnesota Timberwolves as a rookie, which CBS Sports called a winning deal for the team.

With their franchise potentially in flux, the Phoenix Suns grabbed center Da'Ron Holmes II at pick 23. Holmes responded by gracefully taking a bow on stage. However, Holmes' rights were later traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he will serve as a depth piece behind Nikola Jokic.

It's always fun to see players with big hair try to situate the draft cap on their head. Fans were treated to this with Kyshawn George, who was originally drafted by the New York Knicks, but was eventually dealt to the Washington Wizards.

Tristan Da Silva had one of the more interesting timelines heading into the NBA Draft. He grew up in Germany, but played college basketball in the United States for the University of Colorado. The NBA's website believes that the Orlando Magic, who took Da Silva, landed one of the draft's most high IQ players.

Emotions ran high during the first round of the draft, as players were thrilled to reach a goal they had been working towards for a long time. Devin Carter grew up watching his dad, Anthony, play in the NBA. On Wednesday night, Devin made it to the professional ranks, and his father was right there beside him in a pink suit. Matas Buzelis broke down in tears when he heard his name called by the Chicago Bulls at pick 11. The moment was especially impactful for him since he is a local Chicago kid. The ties don't stop there, as the Lithuanian-American was drafted by Bulls general manager Arturas Kornisovas, who has Lithuanian descent himself.

The Atlanta Hawks had the number one pick, and the franchise made sure that their fans enjoyed the moments leading up to the selection. They hosted a draft watch party at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, which was packed with fans looking forward to the start of the Zaccharie Risacher era. The Detroit Pistons were still without a head coach heading into the 2024 NBA Draft, and surprised some by taking Ron Holland fifth overall. Holland played in the G-League this past season, and should help Detroit improve their rotation at the forward position. The Detroit News wrote about the surprise nature of the pick.

Of course, the 2024 NBA Draft will go down in history for the high level French prospects taken at the very top. Dalton Knecht had to wait a little bit longer than he expected to hear his name called, but was eventually taken 17th by the Los Angeles Lakers. Before the draft got started, the former Tennessee star was seen walking around with a pair of sunglasses, which added to his black wardrobe for the evening.

John Calipari is a fixture at NBA drafts, as he's produced many future NBA stars at the University of Kentucky. He was at Barclays Center to support Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham, who were taken in the first round. Calipari hopes he can build an NBA pipeline at his new job with the University of Arkansas.
