10 things you didn’t know about Stephen Curry
The Golden State Warriors guard is the best three-point shooter of all time, and will finish with one of the best NBA careers ever. Throughout the years, kernels of interesting information have dropped about Stephen Curry both on and off the floor, and we’ll summarize the 10 most interesting nuggets here.
Curry was a bit of a film buff in his teenage years. He told Datebook, “Every week it seemed like I saw one of the new films coming out, especially when I was able to drive and go where I wanted to.” The Warriors guard told the publication that his favorite movie ever was The Count of Monte Cristo.
As one of the best basketball players in history, people have also wanted to know which basketball movie tops Curry’s list. During All-Star Weekend in 2019, Curry landed on 'Love and Basketball' as his favorite hoops flick. “I’m a little soft. I’m a romantic at heart bro,” he told reporters.

Steph Curry’s shooting brilliance knows no limits. He can knock down shots off the dribble, standing still, sitting down, from halfcourt… etc. Even though everyone knows how prolific he is, it’s still remarkable to think about the time he hit 105 consecutive three pointers in a practice shooting session.
In December 2020, the Warriors sharpshooter went over five minutes without missing from long range. It’s a testament to his marksmanship, but also his remarkable endurance.
Steph Curry’s family has been in the public eye for decades, but many people might not know that the NBA star is part-Haitian. His grandmother, Candy Adams, was born in Haiti but left the country before giving birth to his mother Sonya in Virginia.
In September 2024, Curry posted, “My beautiful half Haitian mother will be roasting a pig tonight, just like Kamala Harris did during the debate.”
Most NBA fans know that Steph Curry’s father, Dell Curry, played in the league from 1986 through 2002. This gave young Steph the opportunity to rub elbows with his dad’s teammates throughout the years. One of the most memorable interactions came with NBA veteran Eddie Johnson in his driveway.
Dell Curry told his Charlotte Hornets teammate that he thought seven-year-old Stephen could beat him one on one. Johnson told Basketball Network “Man, I look up. We playing a game to 10, I’m tellin’ you this dude up seven nothing… Man, I went old-man style on him. I started backing him down and laying it up. He got mad, and I’m like, I’m not letting you get another shot.”
During the summer of 2023, Curry’s wife Ayesha had fans intrigued by a post about some dinner she made. The story’s caption read, “Made his fave. Brown sugar chicken and Mac and Cheese.”
While Curry is known for cooking up huge games in the playoffs, Ayesha Curry has made a name for herself making signature dishes. According to The Spun, she released a cook book and has her own cooking show on Food Network.

It’s well known that Steph’s brother Seth Curry is also a long-distance sniper on the basketball court. However, the Curry brothers have played with and against another family member during the course of their career. Their sister Sydel Curry is married to Damion Lee, who has played in the NBA since 2017.
Lee and Steph Curry played together on the Warriors for four seasons. During that time, Lee would have to work past people saying he got a handout. He told Arizona Sports, “The people that understand and watch the game versus the people that take those lazy takes and say ‘Damion is just on the team because of Steph.’”
Fans often arrive at the arena early to watch Curry take warmup shots, which is another testament to his greatness. With that said, there is something Curry did that came to light in 2019, that fans would never see. He told The New York Times his routine would be to “get off the bus, walk into the locker room, put my stuff down, go straight to the popcorn table.”
Contrary to popular belief, Curry is human, just like the rest of us. He told The New York Times about his popcorn habits, “if it’s really good, I’m eating it before the game, at halftime, and after.”
The NBA and the music scene have been connected for decades, so it makes sense to check in on what Curry likes to listen to. He told The Unc and Fab Show in 2023 that Lupe Fiasco’s 'The Cool' is his favorite album ever.
Curry said, “I’m a huge Lupe fan. I think that album—I don’t know how many Top 10 lists that album would come up on, but that for me, the time and place too. And he’s an amazing artist.”
Part of the legend of Steph Curry is that his basketball journey exploded at Davidson College. Let’s just say the school is not a historic blueblood of NBA talent, but that’s the way Curry wanted it. Curry actually had a chance to play for powerhouse Duke University, but declined their overtures.
According to Basketball Network, Curry had his eyes on Duke as a high schooler growing up not far from the campus. However, the Blue Devils didn’t want him initially, so he committed to Davidson. Legend has it that Duke reached back out to Curry one year into his college career to see if he would transfer, but he rebuffed them.
Curry is the master of manipulation with a basketball, as his trick shot arsenal has played well in the social media age. People would think that he could do literally anything with a basketball in his hands, but shockingly, he can’t spin it on his finger.

The shortcoming came to light in the summer of 2024, when the United States Olympic team all tried to complete the feat. Curry wasn’t able to do it, and said he was “embarrassed” about it.
