Unforgettable moments

In the past, the European Football Championship has spoiled us with some of the most legendary moments in football history, with spectacular victories and defeats, but also some magnificent goals. Here are the greatest goals in the history of the Euros, in random order.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2012)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is synonymous with great goals. The Swede demonstrated this at Euro 2012 against France, scoring a spectacular volley into the corner.

Rui Costa (2004)

Rui Costa was once one of Portugal's star players. In 2004, the graceful midfielder helped his country eliminate England with a powerful strike that left David James astonished.

Antonin Panenka (1976)

Antonin Panenka stunned Europe in the 1976 final against West Germany. The Czechoslovakian won the trophy for his country with a cheeky chip at the most unlikely of moments.

Paul Gascoigne (1996)

A star of the 90s, Paul Gascoigne dazzled England with a solo goal against Scotland in 1996. Pure class.

David Trezeguet (2000)

The same can be said of David Trezeguet's brilliant effort, which won France Euro 2000.

John Jensen (1992)

In 1992, Denmark shocked reigning world champions Germany thanks to John Jensen, who played a key role by firing the ball into the top corner in the final.

Mario Balotelli (2012)

Mario Balotelli too has demonstrated his shooting power at the Euros. In 2012, he fired a cracking shot against Germany, which he celebrated like only he can.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2004)

Another brilliant goal from Zlatan, this time against Italy and Gianluigi Buffon in 2004, with a brilliant heel kick.

Karel Poborsky (1996)

Czech Karel Poborsky showed his class in 1996, with a lob that left Vitor Baia and everyone in the stadium speechless.

Ronnie Whelan (1988)

Perhaps Ireland's finest goal in a major tournament was scored by Ronnie Whelan in 1988 against the Soviet Union. His acrobatic kick left the goalkeeper stunned.

Marco van Basten (1988)

However, nothing can match Marco van Basten's volley in the 1988 final against the Soviet Union. The Dutchman connected magnificently to score one of the finest, if not the finest goal in Euro history.

Tomas Brolin (1992)

In 1992, Tomas Brolin spoiled the Swedish home crowd by finishing off a classy attack with the outside of his boot.

Maniche (2004)

Maniche opted for a different approach in 2004, simply shooting from distance in the semi-final against the Netherlands, leaving Edwin van der Sar no chance.

Davor Suker (1996)

Davor Suker was one of the best strikers of the 90s, as he showed against Denmark in 1996 with a brilliant chip.

Frank de Boer (2000)

Frank de Boer was part of the Netherlands' great generation in 2000, and fired home a free-kick against France that left Les Blues in shock.

Patrik Schick (2021)

One of the greatest goals of modern Euro history. Patrick Schick saw the space and scored from long range against Scotland in 2021.

Luka Modric (2021)

Luka Modric has excellent technique and demonstrated this against Scotland in 2021 by scoring a superb goal with the outside of his boot. Genius.

Dimitri Payet (2016)

In his prime, Dimitri Payet could beat any goalkeeper from distance, as he did in 2016 against Romania with a great left-foot shot.

Xherdan Shaqiri (2016)

In that same tournament, Xerdan Shaqiri stole the show with a fine-place scissor kick against Poland.
