Week 11 NFL disappointments: Baltimore bowing down to division rival
As we head towards Thanksgiving, certain players and teams are not giving themselves much to be thankful for. We’ll take a look at the lowlights of Week 11, inclusive of the Ravens’ poor performance in Pittsburgh, but we’ll lead off with arguably the most disappointing team in the NFL. All statistics are sourced from Football Reference.
New York Jets beat reporter Rich Cimini posted after the game “They keep finding new ways to lose. This is a poorly coached team that has no killer instinct.” It’s hard to argue with that, as the Jets dropped to 3-8 after another heartbreaking loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Anthony Richardson punched in a go-ahead touchdown that felt like it deflated the fan base.
After getting walloped by the Cardinals in Arizona, it didn’t seem like things could get much worse for the Jets. The New York Post’s Steve Serby wrote that the organization now faces a critical Aaron Rodgers decision, as a season that had so much promise and hype has gone down the drain. “Why would he want to come back to this?”

The Ravens have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, as their offense can beat teams in a multitude of ways. However, none of those methods seemed to work in Week 11 against the Steelers, who held Baltimore to 16 points. It was a huge loss for the Ravens in their quest to get a leg up in the AFC North division race.
Give credit to a swarming Pittsburgh defense who took the ball away from Baltimore early and often. Derrick Henry and Isaiah Likely lost fumbles, and Lamar Jackson threw an interception. It’s a blueprint that Pittsburgh has successfully deployed against the Ravens over and over again, as NBC Sports wrote about after the tilt.
There’s losing, and then there’s getting throttled on the road by a final score of 52-6. It’s no shame for anyone to lose to the Detroit Lions these days, but the Jaguars provided no resistance throughout the course of the day. Articles are coming in fast and furiously about the best candidates to replace the downtrodden Doug Pederson at head coach.
With Jacksonville going nowhere, TalkSport and others have speculated about how the team could improve moving forward. One suggestion is to hire Bill Belichick as head coach. Belichick himself said, “Clearly things aren’t going very well in Jacksonville with the Jaguars and they need to do something to be competitive here.”
There’s a good chance that Atlanta isn’t going to face much resistance on their way to an NFC South title, which would guarantee them at least one home playoff game. With that said, if the Falcons have larger dreams, their play on the road against a hungry Broncos team on Sunday is not an encouraging sign.
The Falcons couldn’t get much going on offense, but it’s their lack of resistance on defense that should be most alarming. Denver rookie quarterback Bo Nix went up and down the field on Atlanta, which was supposed to have an improved unit defensively. Additionally, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris is a defensive coach, but had no answers in a 38-6 drubbing.

The signature game of the weekend featured the Kansas City Chiefs squaring off with the Buffalo Bills. The contest was broadcast to the entire country, which highlighted the anticipation off the Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen matchup. Mahomes didn’t quite live up to the stellar standard he has set for himself.
Mahomes finished the contest 23/33 for 196 and three touchdowns, but also had two costly interceptions. The Chiefs had come into the day undefeated, but Mahomes thinks that this defeat can be viewed as a good thing. “I’m hoping that losing is a benefit. I’m not going to say I or we relaxed, but at the same time I feel like we were just coming away with these wins at the end of the game” he told ESPN.
The Joe Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase connection is as lethal as ever, and Tee Higgins returned to the lineup with a standout performance against the Los Angeles Chargers. The problem is, all of the offensive fireworks have not led to victories for Cincinnati, who dropped to 4-7 after the defeat on Sunday Night Football.
“I can’t (explain it),” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters as captured by Yahoo Sports. “It’s sick the way these games are ending.” Former NFL head coach Bill Parcells once said that “you are what your record says you are”, which is a tough pill to swallow for Bengals fans, who think that they are a much stronger team.
Chicago hasn’t been the same team since their Hail Mary defeat to the Washington Commanders. The Bears had a chance to take down the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, which hasn’t always happened in the longstanding rivalry. However, the Bears’ Cairo Santos had his game-winning kick attempt blocked by Green Bay, which sealed another crushing defeat for Chicago.
The Packers were supremely confident that they could make a play like that on special teams. Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia predicted something like this would happen. “Rich said to our team last night, ‘I will not understand if we come out of this game without a block. Whether a field goal or point-after attempt,’” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told the NFL’s website.
For as bad as the Raiders have been this season, they were right in the mix to steal a win from the Miami Dolphins on the road. They were down 24-19 with three and a half minutes left. It was at this point that Las Vegas’ defense left Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith completely uncovered in the middle of the field, as he scampered for a 57-yard touchdown.

Sports Illustrated covered another consistent issue the Raiders have had all season. They have not been able to get anything going on the ground, as they ranked last in the NFL in rushing heading into Week 11. Things weren’t much better against Miami, as the team only posted 60 yards on the ground.
