Hungary’s number nine Martin Adam responds to vicious online taunts
For many, making an appearance at a major tournament for your country is a dream come true. Unfortunately for Hungarian striker Martin Adam, his dream became a nightmare after online trolls mocked his appearance.
One commenter on social media wrote, “This guy must drink a lot. He has a genuine beer belly,” when Adam entered the field as a 79th-minute substitute, per eVnExpress.
Other comments were more friendly, with some describing Adam as a “Viking” and a “unit” per Indy100.

Some fans made light of Adam’s appearance without mocking him, describing him as, “the most centre back looking striker I’ve ever seen,” per The Daily Mail.
Adam was asked at a press conference if he had seen the comments online, to which he responded, “The posts? Of course one or two get to me, I usually have a laugh about it.” but that he, “can’t change genetics.”
Adam continued, telling reporters, “I was born this way, I have this body shape, I’m not saying that I was this big when I was born, but I have a basic, physique, genetics, I can’t change that.”
Seeing Adam seemingly upset by the comments online, Will Savage on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Shame he feels this way, and sad to hear that. I certainly didn’t mean any harm when making comments”.
Another user on X wrote, “I’ve mostly seen love towards him tbh. Calling him cool, a viking etc. Some I could see how he’s interpreted it negatively though.”
Adam currently plies his trade for Ulsan HD FC in the South Korean league, where he has scored 24 goals in 67 matches, per Transfermarkt.
Adam and the rest of his teammates are set to face Germany and Scotland in their remaining group games, needing at least one win to have a chance of qualifying.
