Who is Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery?
Caitlin Clark’s stardom has reached monumental heights in the past year or so. Her every move has been dissected whether she was playing at the University of Iowa or for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. However, her boyfriend Connor McCaffery has managed to stay relatively out of the spotlight. We’ll take a closer look at Clark’s love interest and how the couple has navigated her success.
Like Caitlin Clark, Connor McCaffery also played basketball for the University of Iowa. He played for the school during six different seasons, spanning from 2017-2023. Unlike Clark, McCaffery was more of a role player, averaging 4.5 points, three rebounds and three assists during his collegiate career. The statistics were sourced from Sports Reference.
Many sports fans might think that Connor McCaffery is part of the same family as Christian McCaffery, a star running back in the NFL. There is no relation, but Connor did have a familial tie to the Iowa program. Connor had the chance to play for his father Fran, who has been the men’s basketball coach at Iowa since the 2010-2011 season.

Connor’s brother Patrick also played for Iowa while he was there, so it was a legitimate family operation for a while. Connor is proud of how much the men’s team has improved under his dad’s coaching. He told The New York Times, “We’re beating ranked teams on a consistent basis on the road. I would say that’s been kind of my favorite thing is to see how this program has kind of changes over the last 12 years.”
After his collegiate hoops days ended, Connor McCaffery decided to go into coaching like his father. He spent about a year working with the Indiana Pacers. Sports Illustrated noted that he helped players out in practice while also taking an active role in scouting.
However, McCaffery left the Pacers in September 2024 to taking a coaching job with Butler University’s men’s basketball team. Once again, he was reunited with his brother Patrick, who transferred to Butler ahead of the 2024-2025 season. Their brother Jack is set to play for Butler in 2025-2026.
In the early part of Butler’s season, McCaffery’s superstar girlfriend Caitlin Clark was seen in the stands rooting the program on. Clark wore a Butler Bulldogs hoodie while in the stands.
Connor McCaffery told the Times Union that Clark knew his brother Patrick a bit better initially. “She was friends with Patrick. I was friends with her. Our teams hung out together. We had good relationships with the women’s team and we just eventually started hanging out. It was just kind of easy how it all worked out.”
Clark has not hid her affection for McCaffery. In a social media post commemorating his birthday, she wrote, “Celebrating you is easy. Thankful to have someone as selfless and as loving as you in my life. May this be the year you finally find a way to outshoot me.”

In a post recognizing Caitlin Clark’s birthday, McCaffery wrote, “Wish I was there to celebrate with you. You deserve the best day.”
Clark called out the pair’s one year dating anniversary in April 2024 on social media, saying, “One year of the best mems with my favorite person. You make everyday better and I can’t wait for many more adventures together… I love you.”
McCaffery also posted about their anniversary, saying, “One year with the best doing life with you has been easy, and you never cease to amaze me… Can’t wait to watch you live out your dreams in person.”
The couple took a vacation in Mexico during the WNBA’s Olympic break, where they were joined by Clark’s Fever teammates Katie Lou Samuelson and Lexie Hull, as well as their significant others.
Connor McCaffery was also a baseball player at Iowa, and had dreams of becoming a MLB player. However, those visions were dashed and altered, as he focused on his burgeoning coaching career in basketball.
McCaffery is four years older than Clark, despite his eligibility at Iowa overlapping with hers.
With both of their busy schedules, it seems like Clark and McCaffery are going to enjoy being a couple for as long as possible without thinking about marriage. There will be a wedding in Clark’s family, however, as her brother Blake got engaged in November 2024.
