Ranked: The worst NFL quarterback performances of all time

Being a quarterback is a tough job, when things go well you are celebrated as a hero, but when it doesn’t, you’re seen as a failure. Sometimes, you play so badly, you are immortalized forever, and not for the right reasons. Let’s take a look at the worst quarterback performances of all time! Andy Dalton has put together a solid, if not spectacular, NFL career, but back in 2014, he had a day to forget. His final stat line of 10/33 for 86 yards, 0 TDs, and 3 interceptions looks bad, but when you add in that ESPN gave him a QBR of 3.1, it showcases just how awful it was.

Darnold is continuing to blossom as a Minnesota Viking, as he has become a rare example of a QB turning their career around after a terrible start. This game came in his second year and is one we hope he’s forgotten about after going 11/32 for 86 yards, 0 TDs and 4 picks. It should be of note that the Jets did not win this game…

2009 saw the Browns face off against the Bills in what is one of the worst games in NFL history, with the Browns somehow winning 6-3 despite their QB Derek Anderson throwing for just 23 yards on two completions. Anderson also threw an interception to cap it all off.

Per GiveMeSport, Zeke Bratkowski managed to throw seven interceptions on just 28 passing attempts, meaning his interception percentage (25%) is only a little below his completion rate (42%). Remarkable stuff.

Certainly the best quarterback who will appear on this list, Peyton Manning was washed in 2015 despite his team eventually winning the Super Bowl. Manning somehow broke the all-time passing record in this game despite going 5/20 with 35 passing yards, and 4 INTs. We hope Manning bought his defense many expensive gifts for getting him his second ring.

Per The Comeback, Dan Pastorini and Archie Manning are the only two QBs to throw five interceptions on fewer than 20 pass attempts. Back in 1977, Pastorini only needed 15 against the Steelers to put himself in the record books with one of the worst showings for a QB ever.

Broadway Joe was nothing if not entertaining during his career, and his performance against the Dolphins in 1975 was certainly that. Namath only threw the ball 24 times in the game for 96 yards on 8 completions. He also threw six interceptions!

Detmer went 22/42 with 212 passing yards, and a TD on the day against the Browns, which doesn’t look bad at all, especially as the TD was to center Shaun O’Hara. Unfortunately, he also threw seven passes to the opposition…

Per GiveMeSport, Jim Hardy threw eight interceptions against the Eagles as the Chicago Cardinals surrendered 12 turnovers on the day. Surprisingly, the Cardinals didn’t have a sniff in the game, losing 45-7 at home.

Rex Grossman had a fairly unspectacular career in the NFL, although he did help (sort of) the 2006 Bears to the Super Bowl. During that season, he had one of the worst performances of all time, throwing four picks and fumbling the ball away twice. Somehow, the Bears won, which says everything you need to know about both teams back then.

Per Statmuse, there have been just five performances ever where the QB has earned a 0.0 Quarterback Rating, and this was one of them. Garcia went 8/27 for 71 yards and three picks. For context, his backup, Luke McCown went 0/1 for 0 yards and earned a 39.6 rating, per ESPN!

The Panthers were coming off a great 2008 season where they had finished as the number two seed in the NFC before losing to the Cardinals in the divisional round. In that game, Delhomme threw five picks, and history would nearly repeat itself in week one of 2009 with Delhomme throwing four picks and losing a fumble in a humiliating loss to the Eagles.

Tim Hasselbeck never quite reached the heights of his brother, Matt, in the NFL, and performances like the one against the Cowboys in 2003 show why. Hasselbeck went 6/26 for 56 passing yards and 4 INTs in one of the other games in which the QB has earned a 0.0 rating.

Before the Bills drafted Josh Allen, they had been searching for an answer at QB for years. All it took was one half of football for the Bills to realize Nathan Peterman was not their guy. Somehow, Peterman threw five interceptions before half-time, including a pick-six. To make matters worse, Tyrod Taylor went 15/25 for 168 yards and a TD in the second half…
