The NBA season is still in its infancy, but it's already been clear that some of the 2024 NBA Draft picks were picked in the wrong places during the process.

Original top-five

Zaccharie Risacher, Alex Sarr, Reed Sheppard, Stephon Castle, and Ron Holland were taken in the original top five. Read on to see how many stayed in the top five in our redraft!

Zaccharie Risacher (Original 1st – Now 1st)

First overall pick Zaccharie Risacher would stay at the number one spot after showing flashes of his elite athleticism and scoring stroke. He scored a career-high 33 points in 37 minutes for the Atlanta Hawks against the New York Knicks and has averaged 12 points so far.

Years to improve

Risacher is a long and crafty forward. At 19, he has years to improve his basketball IQ and fill out into a more extensive body. His three-point shooting has been terrible to start the season, averaging 25.3%. He could go on to be an All-Star in any given season.

Stephon Castle (Original 4th – Now 2nd)

The San Antonio Spurs Guard Stephon Castle originally went fourth in the draft. In his first few months in Texas, he has proven to be a crafty guard who can do it all for the Spurs. In his last seven games, he has scored ten or more points.

Great defender

As a 6ft6 guard, Castle is a great on-ball and off-ball defender who can guard most positions on the floor. Though he can be a wasteful shooter (38.2% from the field), Castle has registered five or more assists on multiple occasions, showing his impact across the floor.

Jared McCain (Original 16th - Now 3rd)

Despite the terrible start for the Philadelphia 76ers (2-12), their one joyous this season has been their rookie Jared McCain, who they drafted 16th in the 2024 NBA Draft. He leads all rookies in points, averaging 15.2 per game, per ESPN.

Increasing his usage

The Sixers have been without stars Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey more recently, but McCain has proven he can step up when he's used more in the offense. In mid-November, he averaged 27.7 PPG when Maxey wasn't available. He exploded for 34 points against Cleveland on November 11th.

Dalton Knecht (Original 17th – Now 4th)

Dalton Knecht has driven himself into starting contention for the Los Angeles Lakers after showing his production when he plays starter minutes. In two games in which he played 37 and 38 minutes against New Orleans and Utah, Knecht scored 27 and 37 points, per the NBA website.

A three-point shooter

Knecht has shot nearly 50% from three-point range and over 90% from the free-throw line. The Lakers had trouble from three-point range last season, and LeBron James and co now have a player they can rely on to take the big shots from long range. He is a true steal in this draft.

'The Kings' approval

According to TalkSport, LeBron James isn't surprised by Knecht's performances. He said: "Everybody on the internet called me a liar, so what am I now? I watched him. I watched Tennessee a lot. I did not think he would fall to us. I thought it would be impossible."

Reed Sheppard (Original 3rd – Now 5th)

Despite his low production this season, averaging 3.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists, Reed Sheppard has been a good asset for the Houston Rockets. He shows he's a good defender, solid creator, and good knockdown shooter.

'Three and D'

In a 19-minute performance against the Chicago Bulls in November, Sheppard connected on four of five three-pointers, scoring 12 points and registering three blocks. Sheppard can play on both sides of the ball and will be an effective 'three and D' player for the Rockets.

Zach Edey (Original 9th – Now 6th)

The 7ft4 center Zach Edey has done precisely what he has needed to do so far for the Memphis Grizzlies, collecting his fair share of rebounds and being a force in the paint. The Grizzlies have a winning record, partly down to having a presence like Edey in the middle.

Paint presence

As well as being a dominant presence in the paint, Edey is willing to pull the trigger from three-point range, knocking down 60% of his shots from beyond the arc. His best game so far was against Brooklyn, in which he scored 25 points and registered 12 rebounds.
