NFL Draft: The top 9 Quarterback prospects in 2024
For most fans, week 18 saw the end of their NFL season, so now all attention turns to the draft. For many teams, the order of the day is to upgrade at the quarterback position, so let’s take a look at the best prospects in this year’s draft.
Rattler was a big time recruit when he landed in Oklahoma in 2019, but his college career never took off until he got to South Carolina in 2022. In the two years there he showcased a big arm and play making ability, but there are questions around his decision-making, with NFLDraftBuzz.com saying: "Questions linger regarding his football acumen. For NFL standards, Rattler has yet to solidly exhibit the decision-making finesse and high-caliber football IQ expected at the professional level"
Pratt is a risk-taking QB had an up-and-down 2023, throwing for 2,405 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, however his turnover-worthy plays nearly doubled from 2022, per Pro Football Focus.
Sanders is yet to declare for the draft, so this ranking could be slightly off, but if he does, he will be amongst the most sought-after QBs in the draft. With elite pocket presence and escapability, he has showcased himself as the model of modern quarterbacking. Another year in college won’t harm his 2025 draft stock, so he could well return for another year.
McCarthy is one of the most competitive players in the draft and had led the Michigan Wolverines to their first National Championship game in a long time. Whilst he may not have the pocket presence and control of games that some teams look for, he’s a gamer and with time could develop into a good NFL player.
Nix was seen as a college football bust after a tough spell at Auburn but was able to turn his career around during his time at Oregon. He’s an incredibly efficient passer who can read defenses as well as anyone. He’s also got enough athleticism to pick up yards with his legs when needed, something the NFL is leaning into more and more.
Penix is an anomaly in modern football, not only is he a pure pocket passer, but he’s also a lefty. There may be no one in the draft with a better arm than Penix and his in-structure play is already at an elite level. If he lands in the right system, he could well be a top-tier NFL passer.
The Heisman trophy winner has boosted his stock more than anyone in 2023, his incredible season saw him pick up just under 5,000 yards with his arm and legs combined whilst accounting for 50 touchdowns. He’s found himself as a worthy first-round pick and could even end up taken in the top 10.
There will be debate up until the draft over who is the QB1 between Maye and Caleb Williams, but for now, we are sticking with the conventional wisdom. Maye has all the tools to be a truly elite passer in the NFL and has the legs to boot. There is no shortage of teams in the league that would love to have the Carolina Tarheel.
In an era of QBs that play as well off script as they do on it, Williams is everything the NFL is looking for. With a fantastic arm, great anticipation, and the ability to make plays out of structure, he could well be the next big thing in the NFL. Where he lands will be key, but for now, we believe he is the most talented QB in the draft.
