Shocking new details revealed about the Leicester City helicopter crash
October 27th, 2018, was a terrible day for English football, specifically Leicester City, as Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha died in a helicopter crash with five others outside the King Power Stadium.
Nearly five years after the terrible incident, Leicester City issued a statement after the publication of the Air Accidents Investigation Branch's final report into the crash.
As well as the Leicester City owner, the crash killed Kaveporn Punpare, Nusara Suknamai, Eric Swaffer, and Izabela Lechowicz.
The final report proved the crash was a 'catastrophic failure,' confirming that a tail rotor bearing seized, making the crash inevitable, according to the AAIB report.
A lack of communication between the helicopter manufacturer and the maker of the bearing was a contributing factor to the crash. Tests were not required by regulations to be shared.
The bearing seizing up led to a sequence of failures, culminating in the loss of control and the subsequent crash of the Leonardo AW169 aircraft.
The devastating crash led to thousands of fans sharing tributes to the Leicester City owner, including many of the players.
Following the crash, Leicester City had strong finishes in the Premier League and won an FA Cup and Community Shield.
Kobe Bryant's untimely death in 2020 was due to a crash in a helicopter, showcasing the dangers of riding in a helicopter.
For the families of the victims, their questions have been answered as to why their loved ones were taken away in October 2018, giving them peace of mind for their lives in the future.
