Summer of Love – NBA players who got hitched in the offseason
NBA players only have a short window during the year to address major personal milestones. The league’s offseason takes place during the summer months, which makes July through September the perfect time to tie the knot with a significant other. We’ll take a look at the weddings involving NBA players that have taken place during this period of time.

The reigning NBA MVP clearly had a wonderful time during his wedding to Anne De Paula. Embiid showed off an array of dance moves for his guests, one of which landed him on his rear end on the floor. The Philadelphia 76ers are likely happy to see him letting off some steam this summer, but might want him to try less ambitious gyrations before next season begins.
A mutual friend of De Paula and Embiid set the couple up in 2018, and the rest is history. She’s a model who hails from Brazil, and is the mother of Embiid’s child, a boy named Arthur Elijah who was born in 2020. The pair shares an immense passion for soccer, which perhaps is not surprising considering both of their upbringings.
The Atlanta Hawks point guard has his fair share of detractors on the basketball court, but his wedding featured nothing but good feelings. Young made his matrimony to Shelby Miller official in a stunning event that took place in the Bahamas. They certainly made use of the picturesque scenery, as they looked up at fireworks illuminating the night sky over the beach.
It’s a tale fit for a sports movie, as Miller was a cheerleader at the University of Oklahoma while Young was the Sooners’ star player. This connection took place in 2017, and Miller has continued her support of Young during his time in the NBA as well. The couple has a son together named Tydus Young, and are expecting a baby girl in the near future.

The Washington Wizards’ sharpshooter is off to a promising start to his NBA career, and will head into next season as a married man. Kispert married Jenn Wirth in San Clemente, California in front of 150 friends and family. The newlyweds have their sights set on Greece and Croatia for their honeymoon as their magical summer continues.
Like her husband, Wirth also played basketball for Gonzaga University, so the two had something in common right from the beginning. She was present right from Kispert’s first days at the university, as the future husband and wife crossed paths while they were moving into their freshman dormitories.
Kaminsky has bounced around a little during his NBA career, having played for four teams. However, he’s been locked in on one significant other, and got married to longtime girlfriend Ashley Brewer in Mexico this July. Their relationship started in a very millennial way, as the NBA player sent his now-wife an Instagram direct message back in 2018.
Brewer might also be familiar to sports fans. She worked for ESPN in a variety of roles, including as a SportsCenter anchor. Shortly before her wedding, the network let her go as part of a highly publicized barrage of layoffs. With Kaminsky by her side, Brewer has the chance to enter a new chapter of her life both personally and professionally.
It's been a magical year for the New York Knicks point guard. In a larger role, Brunson proved that he's one of the best guards in the league. He got married to Ali Marks in Chicago, which is where they both grew up. Many of his former college teammates at Villanova attended, as well as current Knicks players.
Marks and Brunson have been an item since their days at Adlai E. Stevenson High School. While Brunson was on his way to becoming an NBA star, Marks focused her attention on academics. She attended the University of Illinois for undergrad, and then got her Doctorate in physical therapy at Northwestern University.
Brunson wasn't the only Knick to get married in late July. That very same weekend, New York's reserve center tied the knot with Kourtney Kellar. Hartenstein's event took place in California, with an extremely scenic view of the Pacific Ocean. The cake featured an edible version of Hartenstein in a tuxedo, holding a basketball.
Kellar and Hartenstein started dating in 2019, where it was said that the latter messaged his future wife on social media to compliment her smile. Kellar is an accomplished model, who started posing in front of the camera during her college days. She is now modeling professionally.
