10 things you didn’t know about Tom Brady

Tom Brady has been in the public eye for two and a half decades, and has reached living legend status. Most people know about his seven Super Bowl rings, and the numerous records and achievements he has on his resume. We’ll share some fun facts about the prolific quarterback on and off the gridiron.

Former teammates, coaches and professional comedians alike took their turn throwing pointed jokes at the greatest quarterback of all time in May 2024. Comments were made about his personal life, his appearance and his finances, amongst many other things. According to The Providence Journal, Brady received $25 million for the session, which at times became humiliating.

After it was all said and done, Brady admitted he didn’t love the entire experience. He said on a podcast, “I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way it affected it my kids.” There were a lot of quips about Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and her new flame.

Tom Brady won seven Super Bowls during his illustrious NFL career, but he nearly sent one of his trophies to the bottom of the bay. After he won his seventh title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady brazenly tossed the Lombardi trophy from his boat to another during the celebration. As is usually the case, Brady completed the pass over the water, but it was definitely a risky throw.

Brady later admitted he was under the influence of alcohol at that moment. He told Sports Illustrated, “I was definitely inebriated because had I not been there, I don’t think I would have taken the chance in realizing that thing would have fell like 90 feet to the bottom of the way. Would have been a disaster for me.”

NFL fans have many special Brady moments to pick from during his unprecedented career, as he dazzled when the lights shined brightest. One time, Brady was asked what his favorite NFL moment was, and it might not have been one people would expect.

After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the 2021 NFC Championship game, Brady’s son Jack came rushing on to the field towards his father. The quarterback told his son, “How about that? We’re gonna to go the Super Bowl,” and then the two proceeded to talk about how much they loved one another. It’s a moment neither will ever forget.

Brady is most closely associated with the New England Patriots, a franchise which he spent the first 20 seasons of his career with. He would spend the final three seasons of his NFL career with the Buccaneers. However, Brady was a big 49ers fan growing up as a kid in Northern California.

Brady told Sactown Sports, “You know I always consider myself a California kid. Grew up, obviously, loving Joe Montana and Steve Young and going to 49ers games, that’s where I fell in love with football… I was lucky to grow up in the Bay Area at that time.” He said that he loved them through college, but didn’t appreciate that the team passed over him in the NFL Draft.

For as passionate as he was about the game of football for a long time, Brady has other interests outside of sports. In December 2024, Brady shared a story on Instagram showcasing the garden in his Miami home. He wrote the caption “my favorite part of the house.”

Brady then shared a close-up picture of broccoli that was growing in his garden, with the caption “eat your vegetables.” He said that his garden also includes gem lettuce and arugula.

Sticking with the topic of nutrition, Brady was obsessed with putting all of the right things into his body during his NFL career. He credits his disciplined diet as a main reason why he was able to play in the NFL in his mid-40’s at a high level. He had a relatively basic but trusted bite before he played in games.

As Business Insider and others picked up on, Brady drank a smoothie and ate an almond butter and jelly sandwich before the action on the field. The legendary NFL star told Men’s Health that he would only deviate from his regimented diet if he could have the highest quality cheat meal, such as the best pizza or most tasty bacon.

One cliché often used in the world of sports is, “sometimes, they just have your number.” It’s fair to say that no one had Brady’s number during his 23-year NFL career, as the quarterback beat every team in the NFL more than they beat him.

No team’s record against Brady is particularly impressive, but the team that beat him the most in his career was the Miami Dolphins. This isn’t super surprising, considering the lengthy period of time that Brady spent playing them in the AFC East.

Before he became arguably the greatest player in NFL history, Brady was a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. In the classroom, Brady finished up with a 3.3 GPA. He majored in General Studies, with an emphasis on business and psychology. He was also recognized for academic achievement honors.

Brady once shared his resume on social media, which included a couple of summers working at a golf course. Brady also interned at Merrill Lynch as well, so who knows how his life might’ve turned out had he not become an NFL legend.

It can be hard to picture, but Tom Brady watches television and movies just like the rest of us. During a radio interview with WEEI in Boston in 2019, he was asked what his favorite movies were. The first title that came out of his mouth was Hoosiers.

After bringing up Hoosiers, Brady also said that he loved Rudy quite a bit, even though he’s not a fan of Notre Dame football. He also named A League of Their Own, Brian’s Song and Remember the Titans as a few other flicks he’s enjoyed.

Could Tom Brady have been a Hall of Famer in another professional sport? The Montreal Expos selected Brady with the 507^th pick in the 1995 MLB Draft, even though Brady was pretty committed to playing football at Michigan. He was a standout baseball player at Junipero Serra High School.

Former Montreal Expos general manager Kevin Malone told Bleacher Report, “I think he could have been one of the greatest catchers ever. I know that’s quite a statement, but the projections were based on the fact that we had a left-hand hitting catcher, with arm strength and who was athletic.”
