Local television station TVC reports that two more people were involved in the accident who lost their lives.
One of them was Roberto Cabezas, Angulo's teammate at Liga de Quito, who died a few days after the accident. Cabezas was also 22 years old.
Just over a month after Cabezas' death, Angulo passed away, just like his teammate and friend.
Angulo, who was known as 'Angulito', began to make a name for himself after winning the U-20 Copa Libertadores with Independiente del Valle.
Angulo became a mainstay in the first team, which allowed him to move to the MLS, where he played for FC Cincinnati. Just over one year later, he returned to Ecuador, where he was loaned out to LDU Quito.
His performances in Ecuador earned him three caps for Ecuador's national team, for which he made his debut when he was just 20.
Angulo's passing leaves LDU Quito and Ecuadorian football in mourning. May he rest in peace.
