Drawing at Anfield

After a terrible run of results, Ruben Amorim's Manchester United shocked the footballing world by drawing 2-2 away at Premier League frontrunners Liverpool.

Should have won

United took a shock lead thanks to Lisandro Martinez, but goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the advantage. Starman Amad Diallo brought United back into the game before Harry Maguire had the chance to win it for United with 20 seconds remaining.

Restore hope

Despite one good performance, Amorim was brought to Manchester United to restore hope to a club that has been failing dramatically since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, but he believes things may get worse.

"It is a possibility"

Speaking after their loss to Newcastle, when asked if Manchester United were fighting to avoid a drop to the Championship, the Portuguese coach said, "I think that it is a possibility. We have to be clear with our fans."

Scary form

It may seem impossible to consider United as a relegation candidate, but their form will be a scary read for their fans, who have not seen their club relegated from the topflight since 1974, per BBC.

Since his appointment

Since Amorim's appointment in November, United has scored eight points out of a possible 27, winning two games, drawing two, and losing five times.

Poor reading

Since his first game on November 24th, only Southampton (8) have lost more games in all competitions than Manchester United. They also conceded 18 goals in December, their most in a month since March 1964 (also 18).

Worst spot since the 80s

United lost three home games consecutively for the first time since 1979, and their poor form means 14th place was their worst position at the turn of the year since 1989 when they were 15th.

A point a game

Since the Premier League switched to 38 games in 1995, the team that has finished 17th place on average has earned 38 points, a point every game.

Halfway point

At the halfway point of the season, United had scored 22 points in 19 games, earning an average of 1.15 points per game. If they continue like that, they will finish with 44 points.

39 points

However, due to the terrible performances and results under new manager Amorim, the former Sporting coach has averaged 0.9 points per game, per Transfermarkt. If they were to continue in that form, United would record 39 points.

West Ham in 2003

You would think that 39 points would be enough to survive in the Premier League, but in the 2002-03 season, West Ham were relegated with 42 points, making it a real possibility.

No goals

According to LiveScore, Manchester United have struggled terribly in front of goal. They have scored the fifth least number of goals (23), and their top scorers in the league are Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford on four.

Rashford leaving?

Goals will keep Manchester United above the relegation zone, and with the likelihood that Marcus Rashford leaves in January, scoring more goals could be a continued burden for the club towards the end of the season.

Opta supercomputer

According to Opta, in the latest 10,000 simulations conducted by the supercomputer, Manchester United are relegated just 0.15% of the time. That's 15 instances out of a possible 10,000.

Things need to change

The likelihood that Manchester United will get relegated is exceptionally slim, but if Ruben Amorim doesn't get things working soon, the drop zone may be closer than expected for Man Utd fans.
