The French Open is in the past, and grass court season is in full swing in professional tennis, with the Wimbledon Championship, starting on the 1st of July.

Who are the favourites?

The men's game has taken a turn towards the future, with new winners and favourites emerging at each Grand Slam event. With that being said, who are the favourites to take the Wimbledon title in 2024?

Carlos Alcaraz

Off the back of winning the French Open title, reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is the clear favourite going into the grass-court Grand Slam, having already beaten 'The King of Grass' Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final.

The new 'King of Grass?'

According to the Tennis Majors website, Alcaraz stopped Djokovic from winning his fifth Wimbledon title in a row and gave the Serb his first defeat there since 2017. He has a record of 26 wins and six losses in 2024 and won two titles.

Jannik Sinner

World number one Jannik Sinner arrives at Wimbledon after winning his maiden grass-court title at ATP Halle on the 23rd of June. The Italian became the first Italian in 48 years to win a Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open, and his year has gotten better since.

Top form

The ATP website reports Sinner has won 38 and lost three matches so far in 2024, securing four titles on the way. Sinner lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of Wimbledon last year, but his current form would suggest he will take it beyond that this year.

Novak Djokovic

No matter what form or circumstances he is in, Novak Djokovic will always be a favourite to win at Wimbledon, having won four of the last five titles in London and securing seven overall.

A terrible 2024

Djokovic has been busy dealing with a meniscus tear in his knee after suffering the injury at the French Open. This year has been terrible by Djokovic's standards, failing to reach any finals in 2024. If there was one final he could get to, Wimbledon is the place.

Matteo Berrettini (Surprise)

A shock addition to the list and a player who could be in contention at Wimbledon is Italy's Matteo Berrettini, who's now ranked 60th in the world after being out for six months due to an ankle injury.

Class on Grass

According to BBC Sport, the former sixth-ranked player has stepped up his performances heading into Wimbledon, reaching the final of the recent Stuttgart Open. The Italian is a former Wimbledon finalist in 2021, and four of his eight career titles have come on grass.

Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev has been putting several deep tournament runs together as he builds up to the grass-court Grand Slam, reaching the final of the French Open and ATP Rome and the semi-final of the ATP Halle on grass in his last three competitions.

Is this the year?

The German has yet to win a Grand Slam but does have an Olympic gold medal to his name. Zverev is yet to go past the fourth round at Wimbledon, but with his recent form, could he finally make a deep tournament run in London?
