The UEFA Cup changed its name to the Europa League for the 2009/10 season, matching the rebranding of the European Cup's name change to the Champions League in 1992.

The Europa League is a step below the Champions League, but that does not diminish the talent in the competition. Some of the best players in the world win it and are the tournament's top scorers. All statistics per Transfermarkt.

Benfica's Óscar Cardozo was the first UEFA Europa League top scorer, netting nine goals in 12 games and helping the Portuguese side reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to Liverpool.

Radamel Falcao's record-breaking 18 goals in the 2010/11 campaign is the highest number of goals since the UEFA Cup started in 1971. He scored three hat-tricks on Porto's Road to the final and scored the only goal in the final to help Porto beat Braga. Legendary campaign.

The following season, Falcao joined Atlético Madrid and showcased how deadly he was in the Europa League again. He scored 12 goals in 15 games, including two in the final as Atlético Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao. It was Falcao's second Europa League title in as many seasons.

Villarreal's Luciano Vietto, Everton's Romelu Lukaku, and Salzburg's Alan scored eight goals in the 2014/15 Europa League campaign. Lukaku and Vietto reached the Last 16, while Alan was knocked out of the Last 32 by Vietto's Villarreal.

Spanish striker Aritz Aduriz scored an impressive ten in 11 games for Athletic Bilbao, taking them to the quarter-finals. Aduriz scored the crucial away goal that sent Bilbao to the quarters, but his two goals in the quarter-finals were not enough to see them past Sevilla.

Zenit's Giuliano and Roma's Edin Džeko finished top of the scoring standings in 2017 with eight goals. Giuliano and Džeko scored eight in eight for their teams, with the Bosnian scoring two hat-tricks.

Bilbao's Aduriz and Lazio's Ciro Immobile scored eight goals in the 2017/18 Europa League campaign. The big Spanish striker scored in five games in a row to help Bilbao reach the Last 16, while Immobile scored one hat-trick on the way to reaching the quarter-finals.

Chelsea's Olivier Giroud led his team to Europa League glory in 2019, scoring 11 goals in 14 matches, including a superb hat-trick against Dynamo Kyiv. The Frenchman scored once in the final 4-1 victory against his former club Arsenal.

Rangers defender James Tavernier has grown a reputation for scoring world-class goals and being deadly from the penalty spot. The defender scored seven in 15 matches in Rangers' fairytale run to the final, netting goals in every knockout game except the final, where they lost on penalties to Frankfurt.

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Union Saint-Gilloise's Victor Boniface share the lowest total to top the scoring standings with six goals each in the 2022/23 campaign. Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions during the season. Can he find that form again?

The most recent UEFA Europa League top scorer is Marseille's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He scored ten goals in 13 matches to lead Marseille to the semi-finals. His hat-trick against Ajax in the group stage was the highlight of his goalscoring run.
