The 2023 season

The F1 2023 season is now around the corner and the hype seems to be growing by the day. Business as usual for the big three, Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes have been conducting their pre-season test runs positively, however, all eyes are set on Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin in the paddock.

Changing teams

The veteran F1 driver parted ways with Alpine at the finish of 2022, a clear divorce that was waiting to happen as both team and driver were not happy.

Aston Martin's ambitious plan

Alonso committed himself to Aston Martin due to its refreshing and ambitious project. He will be sharing a paddock with British driver Lance Stroll. There is a new plan!

A new era

Aston Martin has never been an F1 powerhouse, they have never won a title. Nevertheless, there is a new atmosphere around the Aston Martin paddock with hopes of a new era.

All gass, no breaks!

The new team formed by Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll is hungry for titles, and with their new AMR23 car, they are looking scary fast!

New engine for the AMR23

The AMR23 has a similar body as the previous car used in 2022 however, Aston Martin mechanics have morphed the engine into a complete monster, and have proven to be a faster car than those in the top five.

Red Bull is concerned

“Aston Martin has Red Bull worried from day one, Adrian Newey mentioned them in the teams that he’s concerned about. The car is essentially good and has some nice ideas,” shared Ted Kravitz, Sky Sports pundit.

Flying at Bahrain

The Spaniard has been running laps in Bahrain for the upcoming season start. Alonso did a total of 57 laps around the track while conducting a race simulation. Ferrari was doing the same program, yet the AMR23 was proving to be slightly faster than Ferrari SF-23.

Lowering expectations

Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack has played down talk about his team and their possibilities. “I think it’s very, very difficult on such a test to make a proper judgment…It’s nice to have good long runs, but still, you need to put them into the right context and not start dreaming.”

Results on the tarmac

Many uncertainties ahead of the Bahrain GP, yet there seems to be positive progress at the Aston Martin paddock. By combining the raw power of the AMR23 and Fernando Alonso’s skill-full driving, Aston Martin could be looking at some serious race driving.

A possible rise back to the top?

Fernando Alonso is regarded as one of the best F1 drivers due to his resourcefulness in driving, regardless of the car. The Spaniard has bounced around multiple teams but has always proven to be a top-flight professional.

Returning to top form

Alonso’s last championship victory was in 2005 and 2006 when he drove for Renault. He faced great opposition from Mick Schumacher, Felipe Masa, and Kimi Raikkonen yet came out victorious at the end of the session.

Close but no cigar

After his time at Renault, Alonso went to McLaren and then Ferrari where he achieved multiple podiums. However, due to repetitive engine failures, the Spaniard failed to win another championship title.

Unreliable cars

In 2021, Alonso joined Alpine alongside Esteban Ocon. The team showed promising signs nevertheless, the car was absolutely in shambles and completely unreliable. Alonso would drop down to the mid-table zone but would still display some great driving.

More Hamilton vs Alonso to come

During the Hungary GP in 2021, Fernando Alonso held Lewis Hamilton and his bullet Mercedes for almost ten laps, while Alpine teammate Ocon would go on to enjoy his first F1 victory. Alonso's defensive driving was remarkable. Arguably one of the most impressive defensive drives in the F1, as Alpine has no business keeping up a Mercedes for so long. Yet, Alonso made his car six meters wide and denied Lewis an easy pass.

Full throttle this season

Fernando Alonso is now in a new team and driving a new reliable car but we are all hoping to see the old Alonso come back. He still has the fire and the ambition and is now presented with a competitive car…Things are looking spicy for this season!
