Is Anthony Joshua's Christmas boxing card the greatest heavyweight event?

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder will headline Saudi Arabia's December 23^rd boxing event, but not against each other.

The boxing event billed 'The Day of Reckoning' features one of the greatest boxing cards in recent history and sits as the perfect replacement for Oleksandr Usyk versus Tyson Fury that will take place in February next year.

The boxing showcase will have eight fights featuring world champions, former world champions, and contenders at heavyweight, cruiserweight, and light heavyweight.

For the heavyweight division specifically, the event couldn't have come around at a much better time, with the division having one of its worst years to date.

Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk was supposed to happen for the whole of this year but didn't. Then Dillian Whyte failed a drugs test just days before fighting Anthony Joshua.

Deontay Wilder hasn't fought all year, Usyk has fought once against Daniel Dubois, and Tyson Fury has headlined one event against a UFC champion, not a boxing champion.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has taken a lot of flack for their newfound domination of the world's best sports. One thing is certain though, they know how to put on an electric boxing card.

The first heavyweight fight is Deontay Wilder versus Joseph Parker, the battle of two former heavyweight world champions battling to stay relevant in the sport.

Parker reigned as the WBO champion from 2016 to 2018, and Wilder was the WBC champion from 2015 to 2020, but recent losses for both have them on the edge of retirement.

The stakes couldn't be greater for both fighters, with the winner having first dibs on fighting Anthony Joshua next year and the loser ending his career.

Former world champion Anthony Joshua (26-3) takes a huge risk in fighting Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin (26-1). If he loses, he can say goodbye to the chance of fighting Tyson Fury next year.

Although he may be relatively unknown, Wallin poses a legitimate threat to Joshua and has been calling him out for years, believing he can defeat the British heavyweight.

Since losing to Usyk twice, Joshua has put in some subpar performances against Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin, but Joshua knows he will have to step up against Wallin, whose only defeat came to Tyson Fury by decision ten years ago.

The final heavyweight bout to look out for that possesses real heavyweight superstars is the fight between Daniel Dubois (19-2) and Jarrell Miller (26-0-1).

In August, Dubois gave a good account of himself against current champion Usyk and could have won the fight on a different day after the referee ruled his shots were below the belt when Usyk stopped to take a breather.

Both Miller and Usyk have the knockout power to defeat each other, but Miller has not fought anyone at the level of Dubois. This and the other two heavyweight fights can put the division back on the map on December 23^rd!
