Is Marcus Rashford the greatest wasted talent in modern football?
In 2016, Marcus Rashford broke onto the scene at Manchester United by scoring braces against Midtjylland and Arsenal. Most United fans thought they had found their next best thing, but eight years later, Rashford is ready to leave his boyhood club after a mediocre time.
According to the Mirror, Rashford dropped a bombshell after being left out of the Manchester derby: "For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps."
"When I leave, it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse."

However, despite Rashford's adamant assertion that his time at Manchester United has come to an end, his new manager, Ruben Amorim, has stated that his 'new challenge' lies with his current club.
According to the Standard, Amorim said: "I think it's right, we have here a new challenge. It's a tough one; for me, it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation, and I already said this is one of the biggest clubs in the world."
The new Manchester United boss seems keen to keep Rashford in the mix at Old Trafford, but since bursting onto the scene in 2016, Rashford hasn't been the player everyone thought he would become.
Since the 2015/16 campaign, Rashford has scored ten or more Premier League goals in four seasons, with his best total being 17 in 2020 and 2023. In another four seasons, he has scored five goals or less, showing his inconsistencies as a forward for Manchester United.
11 goals in 48 matches in the past 18 months is not good enough, especially for a player earning around the same money as Mohamed Salah at Liverpool with £325,000 ($412k/€393k) a week, per the BBC.
Rashford is 27 now and should be in his prime, but after being dropped against Manchester City, he isn't even United's third-best attacking option. The Englishman is paid like he's one of the best in the world, but his production is limited.
The forward's attitude and private life have been called into question over the past couple of seasons, missing numerous meetings, reporting ill for an FA Cup game in January, but was spotted at a nightclub in Belfast a couple of days before, and going to New York while the club is in the bottom half of the league at the end of November.

With Rashford in his prime now and production going down, United may look to cut their losses in January and sell the forward for a cut-price to spark a ruthless cultural reboot. But who are the teams he could join?
Spurs captain Heung Min Son has six months left on his contract at Tottenham, and Rashford could be the perfect player to replace the South Korean. Son has made over 400 appearances for the Spurs and could look for a new challenge, just like Rashford.
Arsenal's Gabrial Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have struggled this season on the left side for Arsenal, and bringing in Rashford would bolster their options on that side. Rashford's ability to play through the middle could be an extra incentive, given that Arsenal has no recognised number 9.
The French club has brought in a replacement for Kylian Mbappe on the left, and Rashford could be the guy to step up and reignite his fire away from the spotlight of England. A weaker league away from the English media and fans could be the perfect spot for the Englishman.
Like PSG, FC Barcelona has been interested in Rashford for some time, and the club may be vying for a left-winger in January. The Catalan club has been playing Raphinha on the left, but he is more recognised as a number 10 or right-winger. A vacant spot may be open for Rashford.
All clubs above would have to give Rashford a pay cut, but teams in Saudi Arabia will either match it or offer the Englishman more money to lure him to the Middle East. With stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Karim Benzema there, Rashford could be tempted to switch.
