"I was drunk last night"

Ingrid Andress' Home Run Derby national anthem rendition will live long in infamy as one of the worst of all time, however, the 32-year-old singer has claimed, "I was drunk last night," on social media during the performance, perhaps explaining why she struggled.

Seeking help

The singer continued, telling her followers on X (formerly Twitter), "I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night."

Apology

In what must have been a tough 24 hours for the country performer, Andress had the grace to admit her mistakes and apologize, writing, "I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition." Hopefully, she can get the help she needs.

Ingrid Andress’ brutal performance

Country singer Ingrid Andress shocked the nation with a performance of the US National Anthem in the lead-up to the Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, with some fans leaving brutal comments about her efforts.

Criticisms

Per NBC, one fan took to social media and described Andress’ rendition as “one of the worst”!

“Embarrassed”

Another fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to say they were “embarrassed for her” during her performance, per The Sun.

Grammy-nominated

For those unfamiliar, Andress is an accomplished singer with over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a Grammy nomination under her belt.

Auto-Tune

One viewer posted this demolition of her performance, “This is what a Grammy nominee made by Auto-Tune sounds like without Auto-Tune or musical accompaniment,” following the completion of the anthem.

“Certain liberties”

NBC News’ review of her performance was more polite, but certainly didn’t hold back, with the publication writing, “The 32-year-old sang the anthem a cappella at Globe Life Field and took liberties with certain notes throughout the song.”

Trying to be nice

NBC also reports one fan’s desperate attempt to not be too mean in their criticism, “I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” per Alex Carr on X (formerly Twitter).

Unfavorable comparisons

Andress’ performance has been compared by some online to Fergie’s attempt at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game when she “received criticism far and wide for the performance, which had a slower, jazzier edge,” per NBC News.

“Would’ve been an upgrade”

This led to another viewer writing, “With all due respect, and I mean this sincerely, this is the worst anthem I’ve ever heard. Fergie would’ve been an upgrade,” on X.
