The GOAT

Sir Lewis Hamilton is seen by many racing fans as the greatest Formula One driver of all time, winning a record equally seven Formula One World Championships in his career.

Challenging in 2023

With the new Formula One season just around the corner, can Hamilton make history and surpass Michael Schumacher by winning eight world titles?

Ranking his titles

Here are his seven World Championships ranked from least impressive to most impressive!

2015 title (7)

Although Nico Rosberg had run Hamilton close in previous seasons, the 2015 Formula One season marked just how dominant Lewis Hamilton was with no real competition to challenge him.

Sailing to victory

Ferrari's newcomer Sebastian Vettel was still finding his feet with his new car, and the lack of competition showed, winning ten races in the season and securing the title with three races left.

2019 title (6)

The 2019 title was another dominant season for Hamilton, winning the championship with two races to go. However, this title was significant due to the controversy over the Ferrari engine.

Overcoming the challenge

Ferrari's strong qualifying form due to a controversial engine meant Hamilton only took the pole five times in the season. Despite that, his superb racing earned him eleven race wins, securing his sixth title.

2020 title (5)

The 2020 Formula One season was the season where current world champion Max Verstappen was starting to blossom into the driver he is today.

Showing his dominance

Despite the challenge of teammate Valtteri Bottas and a hungry Max Verstappen, Hamilton yet again showed his sheer racing brilliance, winning eleven races and going equal with Michael Schumacher on world titles won.

2014 title (4)

The first season with the 1.6 litre V6 engine was one of Mercedes dominance, with Hamilton battling it out with teammate Nico Rosberg right down the wire.

Edging it out

Hamilton took seven polls to Rosberg's eleven, but whilst Rosberg had the race advantage, Hamilton still won eleven races to Rosberg's five, edging the championship out by the skin of his teeth.

2017 title (3)

After no longer having the title threat within the team with Bottas joining from Williams, Hamilton's challenge came from Ferrari with Sebastian Vettel.

Excellence

Hamilton had emerged from hit title loss the year before better than ever, mastering the Mercedes machinery, winning five of the last nine races to secure the championship.

2018 title (2)

Lewis Hamilton's 2018 Formula One World Championship was one of the best titles ever won by any driver, optimizing his and the car's performance during the season.

The best driver

Hamilton was dominant throughout the season, winning eleven races, but it was superb driving when the odds were stacked against him that was most impressive. Races at Sochi and Monza, surpassing the Ferrari drivers with legendary driving, stand out in this iconic season.

2008 title (1)

It wasn't peak Lewis Hamilton, but due to the rawness and ability to win at just 23 years old, this ranks as Hamilton's greatest world title victory.

Grinding it out

His mistakes in the season stood out, but excellent race wins in England and Germany, including another three wins in the year, helped him grind out the title by one point, with Ferrari's Felipe Massa challenging right to the end.
