When these relationships break down, it can have huge consequences at an economic level and in some shocking cases, result in multi-million dollar disasters. For this reason, it is worth reviewing which divorces have been the most expensive in the history of sports.

 

 

Roman Abramovich and Irina Vyacheslavovna (2007)

The couple ended their 16-year relationship, with Irina taking $300 million in divorce settlements, according to the Daily Mail.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver (2011)

They were the perfect couple for 25 years, but an illegitimate child with a former employee ruined the couple's marriage. They had no prenuptial agreement, so Maria Shriver took $200 million and half of the family estate, according to CBS News.

Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy (2006)

The greatest basketball player in history had to pay $168 million to Juanita Vanoy, the mother of his three children: Jeffrey Michael, Marcus James, and Jasmine after their divorce was settled, according to People magazine.

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren (2003)

A car accident brought down Tiger's image, as well as his relationship, as it revealed his addiction to intimate partners outside of his marriage. His divorce cost him $145 million, according to Forbes.

Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields (1999)

After a tough court battle, Linda Claridge was left with percentages of Hulk Hogan's companies, property, cars, and cash. The deal was reportedly for around $30 million, according to E! Online.

Lance Armstrong and Kristin Richard (2003)

Before his cycling career was blown up, Lance Armstrong left his wife, Kristin Richard, for singer Sheryl Crowe. After five years of marriage, he had to pay his ex-wife $14 million, according to the book, 'Lance Armstrong's War'.

Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis (2008)

The NFL star divorced his wife, Cinthia Curtis, to end up in the arms of Jennifer Lopez. The end of their divorce brought a price: $7 million of liquid assets and a mansion in Coral Gables valued at $18 million, according to PageSix.

Mike Tyson and Robin Givens (1989)

Robin Givens defined her year of marriage with the boxer as "torture, pure hell, worse than anything I could possibly imagine", in an interview with 'The New York Times'. If that terrible year of her life was worth the $10 million she received, only she knows.

 

Thierry Henry and Claire Merry (2008)

Shortly after signing for Barcelona, Thierry Henry ended a five-year marriage to French model Claire Merry, who received $9.9 million from the footballer, according to Mail Online.

Chris Evert and Andy Mill (2006)

One of the best tennis players in the world ended her marriage to skier Andy Mill after 18 years together. The price to pay was $7 million, a house valued at $4 million in Aspen, and a Porsche, according to People Magazine.

Dwyane Wade and Siohvaughn Funches (2007)

They had been together since high school, married in 2002, and had two children but separated in 2007. The NBA star ended up paying $5 million and a $300,000 annual pension, according to CBS Sports.

Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian (2011)

Beyond economics, this marriage between the NBA player and the businesswoman lasted less than three months, from August 20 to October 31, 2011: a whopping 72 days, according to TMZ. Humphries sought an annulment, $7m, as well as legal fees covered, in his separation from Kardashian. None of that happened, and he had to sign divorce papers, received no settlement, and had to cover all the legal costs at his end himself.
