Wouldn't be the same

The fight game wouldn't be the same without superstar sports announcers Bruce and Michael Buffer, the voices of the UFC and boxing.

Famous introductions

The brothers have made a fortune from their sports announcements, with Michael being famous for 'Let's get ready to Rumble' and Bruce famous for his 'It's Time' UFC announcement.

Could have been different

Their exceptional success as brothers and sports announcers could have been so different because the brothers didn't know each other existed until later in life.

Joe Buffer

Joe Buffer, a decorated World War Two veteran, is the father of both sons, but Michael (born 1944) is 13 years older than Bruce (born 1957).

Up for fostering

Joe married Michael's mother young and left the pair of them to fight in the world war. Less than a year later, Joe divorced Michael's mother, and as a single mum, she couldn't cope, putting Michael up for fostering.

Huber

Under his new foster parents, Michael adopted the surname Huber until he enlisted in the US Army to fight in Vietnam and found out that wasn't his actual surname.

Keeping Buffer

A Vietnam War recruiter found that his surname was Buffer on his birth certificate and told him his name was now Buffer because it wasn't formally changed to Huber.

Discovering Michael

As for Bruce, who was running his own sales company in Los Angeles, he discovered Michael in his late 20s, falling in love with his work as a boxing announcer in the 80s without knowing he was his brother.

Questioning his dad

Bruce grew up with Michael's father and a different mother, and when Michael's name started to appear on the TV screen, Bruce questioned his father, Joe, whether he was his brother or not.

Finally meeting

Joe confirmed that Michael and Bruce were brothers in the late 80s, and the pair finally met in 1989 after Bruce explained the situation to Michael.

'Feeling overtook me'

According to thesun.co.uk, Bruce spoke on meeting Michael for the first time, saying: "The feeling that overtook me was A: I'm a big fan of his work and a fan of what he does."

'This is my blood'

"But B: this is my blood. This is my brother. I'm hit by a kind of double whammy. It was a wonderful night. I was just so happy we all got along."

Business partners

Just after their first exchange, the brothers became business partners, with Bruce helping Michael to trademark his 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble' catchphrase and Michael helping Bruce get his first gigs.

UFC

Bruce had his first gigs at the UFC and kept that job ever since, becoming the unanimous voice of the MMA and introducing legends like Conor McGregor and Jon Jones.

Voice of boxing

Michael has continued to be the voice of boxing and hosted many other sporting events, establishing as the greatest sports announcer in history.
