Disappointing performances

Euro 2024 has been filled with surprises, including the rise of emerging stars like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams. However, this tournament has also had disappointing performances from many big names...

Goalkeeper - Andriy Lunin

After an exceptional season with Real Madrid, Andriy Lunin had high hopes for his Ukrainian national team. Unfortunately, the goalkeeper made multiple critical mistakes, leading his coach to bench.

Right back - Giovanni Di Lorenzo

Another flop was Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who couldn't keep up with Ruben Vargas in the round of 16 against Switzerland. The Neapolitan did not shine down the right flank and was very disappointing this Euro 2024.

Central defender - Abdulkerim Bardakci

Turkey's central defender, Abdulkerim Bardakci, struggled to defend his line. He was overwhelmed against Portugal and also struggled against the Netherlands.

Central defender - Gianluca Mancini
Although Italy is often remembered for its 'catenaccio,' they failed to deliver a strong defensive performance these Euros. Gianluca Mancini was partly to blame, as the Italian defence did not meet expectations.
Left back - Oleksandr Zinchenko

At the left-back position, there is no debate: Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Arsenal player struggled to perform with his Ukrainian national team in both offensive and defensive plays. He was nearly invisible on the pitch.

Midfielder - Joey Veerman

There were high expectations for the 25-year-old Dutch midfielder in this European Championship. However, the PSV player was not up to par during the Austria fixture, and fans demanded more.

Midfielder - John McGinn

Exceptional with Aston Villa this season, John McGinn was nowhere to be seen during Euro 2024. He was not present on the pitch, less decisive, and only a shadow of his former self.

Midfielder - Antoine Griezmann

To say that Griezmann was disappointing is an understatement. The French striker was relegated to the bench after the Spain fixture. Didier Deschamps expected more from the Atletico forward, who was nowhere to be seen next to Mbappe.

Right Forward – Phil Foden

Phil Foden was placed on the flank by Gareth Southgate, and he was never fully able to adapt to the positioning. The Manchester City forward was relentless in his efforts, but was unable to cash in any noticeable performances.

Left forward - Kylian Mbappe

The big star of the tournament was a massive letdown for many French fans. The Real Madrid striker tried to carry the team forward in critical moments, but it was never enough. Hampered by a nose injury at the start of the tournament, the French superstar had an uphill battle from the beginning.

Center Forward - Cristiano Ronaldo

Out of all the disappointing center forwards this Euro 2024, the one that stood out the most was the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese captain struggled to knock on in, leaving the European tournament with a clean sheet. Special mention to Scamacca, Lukaku, and Harry Kane who also had questionable performances.
