The table projects which countries are most likely to be successful and predicts exactly how many gold, silver, and bronze medals a country will win.

The countries

Here are the countries most likely to win the most medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics!

United States of America

According to the Nielsen website, Team USA is the favorite to take the most medals home as they are projected to take 121 medals, eight more than the Tokyo Games in 2021. Of those 121 medals, 37 are projected to be gold.

LeBron back?

The USA has elite talent in nearly every sport, including gymnastics with Simone Biles, swimming with Katie Ledecky, track and field with Noah Lyles, and the potential return of LeBron James for the men's basketball team.

China

China is second on this list and the country most likely to challenge the USA for the top spot in the medal position, having been projected to win 85 medals and 37 golds. According to Francs Jeux, China broke 20 world records in seven Olympic disciplines last year.

Specialist sports

China doesn't dominate a wide range of sports, but they pick most of their medals up in the ones they are best at, including diving, shooting, table tennis, and artistic gymnastics. Table Tennis star Wang Chuqin is expected to dominate this year.

Great Britain

In a place only made up of 67 million people, Great Britain always produces on the Olympic stage, winning 64 medals at the Tokyo Games and is expected to win 65 in Paris, according to the Nielsen website.

Peaty

Team GB specializes in several sports at the Olympics, including cycling, swimming, BMX riding, and football. Swimmer Adam Peaty is aiming to win gold in the 100m breaststroke for the third Olympic Games running.

Japan

After a record-breaking medal take (58) for Japan in their own Olympics in 2021, the Japanese are expected to do nearly as well in Paris (53). The virtual medal predictor projects Japan will win 15 gold medals.

Back-to-back golds

Judo, freestyle wrestling, and skateboarding were Japan's best-performing sports in 2021, with Naohisa Takato, Yui Susaki, and Yuto Horigome all looking to win back-to-back golds in Paris, according to the Olympics website.

France

Being the host nation, the Nielsen website reports that France is expected to win nearly 20 more medals than they did in Tokyo, from 33 to 52. If they are to win 52 medals, it will be their best performance at the Games since 1900.

Wembanyama

France is expected to win 27 gold medals at the Games, with one being in the men's basketball, where superstar Victor Wembanyama will be leading the French against the USA for the gold.
