7 out of 7! Sevilla's incredible Europa League/UEFA Cup record

Sevilla FC has become a true expert in European football over the past 20 years. The Spanish team has amassed no fewer than seven European trophies in those years, becoming one of the most successful football clubs in Europe.

Moreover, Sevilla won every Europa League/UEFA Cup final it played in. Let's go back in time and have a look at the Andalusian club's seven triumphs.

Sevilla's amazing record started in the 2005/06 season, when the Spanish club eliminated Schalke 04 in the semi-finals.

The final hurdle on the road to European glory was Middlesbrough. The final was contested in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, and became a one-sided match, with the Andalusians winning 0-4 and celebrating their first European trophy. Many were to follow.

A year later, Sevilla reached the final again. This time, the Spanish team faced Espanyol Barcelona, a familiar opponent.

After ninety minutes and extra time, there was no difference between the two Spanish teams and the match ended 2-2. Penalty kicks were to decide, and it was Sevilla that took the win and its second UEFA Cup in a row after a 3-1 shoot-out.

Sevilla had to wait seven years for their next European final. In the 2013/14 campaign, the Andalusians beat Valencia CF in the semi-finals and faced a tough opponent in the decider: S.L. Benfica.

In a close game, both sides failed to score in 120 minutes, bringing the match to a penalty shoot-out, in which Sevilla kept their nerves at bay and took their third European trophy with 4-2.

It would be the start of a three-year run for the Andalusians, who also reached the final in the 2014/15 season. The opponent in that final was a rather surprising one: Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

The Ukrainian side gave Sevilla a good run for their money, but the Spaniards were in no doubt and won 2-3, with Carlos Bacca getting on the scoresheet twice.

Three in a row, that was Sevilla's goal in the 2015/16 season. A goal which the club realised by beating Liverpool in the final.

The match was played in Basel, Switzerland, and Liverpool took the lead thanks to a Daniel Sturridge goal in the 35th minute. Sevilla recovered quickly after the break, when Kevin Gameiro equalised. Then Coke did the rest, scoring twice and guiding Sevilla to a historic Europa League run of three in a row.

Next up: the 2019/20 campaign, in which Sevilla faced Italian giant Internazionale in the final during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to restrictions, no fans were allowed into the stadium, but that did not stop the players from making it a tight and hard-fought match. Inter took the lead through a penalty from Romelu Lukaku, after which Luuk de Jong put Sevilla ahead. A goal by Diego Godin and an own goal by Lukaku sealed the match 3-2, with Sevilla taking their sixth European trophy.

Another Spanish-Italian clash in the 2022/23 season. Sevilla faced José Mourinho's AS Roma, in what promised to be another hard-fought match.

It was Roma who took the lead in the first half through Paulo Dybala, but Sevilla replied after the break, forcing Gianluca Mancini to score an own goal. It all went to penalties, with Sevilla keeping their cool and beating the Romans 4-1. A seventh European trophy for the Andalusians, a first European final defeat for Mourinho. In other words, a final for the history books.
