Looks like a torn Achilles

Jets fans all over the world will be feeling a mixture of emotions today as newly acquired QB Aaron Rodgers lasted just four snaps before getting carted off the field.

Diagnosed on field

It was immediately obvious to the Jets training staff that Rodgers had suffered an Achilles injury, one of the easier ones to spot without further scans.

MRI booked in

Despite the on-field diagnosis, Rodgers will go for an MRI scan today to confirm the Jets’ worst fears.

Just to confirm

Jets head coach, Robert Salah, noted the need for an MRI was essentially a formality as Achilles injuries are so easy to spot for medical professionals.

Missing the season

If it is confirmed to be a ruptured Achilles, Rodger’s season is over almost before it began meaning the Jets will have to rely once again on Zach Wilson.

Recovery time varies

Achilles injuries can often take up to a year to return to full strength but it was only two years ago Cam Akers returned within six months meaning Rodgers could theoretically be back for the Jets’ preseason.

What now?

For the Jets, this was their year, with an incredible defense and stout running game, all complemented by Offensive Rookie Of the Year 2022 Garrett Wilson, Rodgers was the final piece to the puzzle. Now it seems their dreams are already crushed.

Can they rely on Wilson?

Since his entrance to the NFL, Zach Wilson has been one of the worst quarterbacks of all time by myriad advanced metrics. Will the Jets be happy with the ex-BYU QB under center?

Could they make a trade?

Given the draft capital they gave up to acquire Rodgers, the Jets are in a difficult spot to make a trade at QB but if a player like Jacoby Brissett was available from the Commanders, it could be worth doubling down.

Will Matt Stafford become available?

The Rams shocked the NFL world on Sunday with their demolition of the Seahawks despite the expectations they are going to be amongst the worst teams in the league. If that prophecy comes true, and the Rams are sitting at only one or two wins come the trade deadline, do they go full reset mode and look for a way out of Stafford’s deal?
