An Olympic Champions' sensational dispute with the Diamond League

Olympic 110m hurdles champion Grant Holloway will not race at the Diamond League meeting final in Brussels, scheduled for September 13th and 14th.

Holloway is fresh off finishing second to Sasha Zhoya at Gala dei Castelli, and the final Diamond League meeting would have been perfect to cap off an incredible year.

According to Pulse Sports, Holloway won't be racing in the final Diamond League meeting because of monetary disagreements with the meeting directors.

The American hurdler shared the news on X, explaining they could not agree and hinting the issue was about money. He also advised athletes not to run for less than their value.

Holloway stated: "I will not be participating in the Brussels Diamond League Final due to a failure to reach agreements on the terms of my participation between my team and the meeting directors of the Diamond League."

At the end of the statement, Holloway took a major dig at the Diamond League organisers, saying: "Shame that they are doing athletes like that...#BrusselsDL #NeverCompeteForLess."

As far as records and accolades are concerned, Holloway is one of the most elite runners in the world. He claimed his maiden Olympic title in Paris with a time of 12.99s.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Holloway is the 2022 Belgrade and 2024 Glasgow World Indoor Champion and the world indoor record holder, with a time of 7.27s at the 2024 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships.

The Olympic champion has four gold medals in this year's Diamond League additions and posted a time of 12.99 at the Zurich meet. He created history by having the most sub-13 110m hurdle performances, Essentially Sports reports.

The five-time world champion (three outdoor, two indoor) was unbeaten in 2024, before taking home the Olympic gold. This year, he competed in five Diamond League meets, topping in four.

The world-leading time of 12.86s in the 110m hurdles has also come from him, so is Holloway right to demand a more significant appearance fee if he's the star attraction in one of the most lucrative events?

It would be a massive miss for the Diamond League if the directors couldn't agree with Holloway because of his consistency and successive results. He said: "Just going forward with that, I'm looking forward to continuing to pay out my legacy."
