Footballing GOAT Cristiano Ronaldo is officially the most capped international football player after last week's international break.

197 caps

Ronaldo earned his record-breaking 197 and 198 caps in European Qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg last week, scoring four goals in two victories.

International for 20 years

The Portuguese forward made his international debut for the national team in 2003, coming off the bench in a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan when he was 18.

Back in the team

Ronaldo started all three opening games at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before losing his place in the team during the knockout rounds. However, under new boss Roberto Martinez, Ronaldo is back in the starting eleven.

Ahmed Kano is an Omani professional football player who plays for the Qatari team Al Markhiya. Kano is 38 years old and made his professional debut in 2000.

Time with Oman

The midfielder made his debut for the Oman National team in 2003. Since then, he's scored over 20 goals for the team and helped them win the 2017 Gulf Cup.

(4) Ahmed Hassan, Egypt (184 caps)

Ahmed Hassan is a footballing icon in Egypt, deputizing in 1995 and retiring from international football in 2012, making 184 appearances for the team.

Africa Cup of Nations

During his long and successful spell with the Egyptian national team, Hassan played at eight Africa Cup of Nations and reached four finals. A feat no other player has achieved.

(3) Soh Chin Ann, Malaysia (195 caps)

Central defender Soh Chin Ann played his 20-year career in Malaysia, winning six Malaysia Cup titles.

FIFA records

It is believed that the Malaysian defender has played nearly 220 international matches for Malaysia, but FIFA only recognizes 195 of them, leaving him third on the list.

The closest man to Cristiano Ronaldo's record is Kuwait national team forward Bader Al-Mutawa.

The forward made his debut for the Kuwait national team in September 2003. He has become a national icon in Kuwait and still plies his trade in the Kuwait National League at 38.
