The worst fights between teammates in world soccer

Tempers can flare in football and in rare situations, players result to fighting, ruining their own personal image in the process.

Teammates reaching boiling point can be the harsh reality of football if things aren't going well.

It can be the ugly side of sports that no one wants to see.

Here are some examples of teammates clashing on the football pitch.

A scuffle for the history books in the Premier League was between Lee Bowyer and Kieran Dyer, who were both sent off for fighting each other in the middle of the pitch when Newcastle was losing to Aston Villa 3-0 in 2005.

Frustrations had boiled over at St James's Park, with the crowd booing the team. Lee Bowyer took his frustrations out on Dyer, who he thought was purposely not passing him the ball, leading to a bust-up that will be remembered by many.

Wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery tormented defenders for years, playing for Bayern Munich. However, a disagreement over who should take a free kick left the pair in disarray.

According to planetfootball.com, Ribery reportedly punched Robben in the face at half-time of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in 2012. Nevertheless, Robben confirmed the incident 'only made them stronger.'

The most recent and well-known bust-up happened between Bayern Munich teammates Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane after losing to Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final.

Sky Germany reported that Mane was so upset with Sane after Bayern's 3-0 defeat that he punched him in the face after the game. The German international was seen with a bust lip, traveling back to Germany.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is notorious for being ferocious, threatening multiple players, and inflicting damage on teammates everywhere he has been.

Whilst playing for AC Milan, the Swedish international clashed with teammate Oguchi Onyewu, confirming in his autobiography he 'head-butted him' and the pair were 'punching and kneeing each other.'

Joey Barton has famously never taken to his teammates too well in his footballing career, but his attack on Manchester City teammate Ousmane Dabo was an assault, not a fight.

Barton left Dabo unconscious and in a pool of blood on the ground after being repeatedly punched by Barton. Subsequently, Barton was handed a four-month suspended sentence.

Emmanuel Adebayor has again had a past of petulance with his teammates in his career, reportedly scuffling with Manchester City teammate Kolo Toure in 2011. However, his attack on Nicklas Bendtner was much worse.

The former Arsenal striker attacked his teammate Bendtner in a 5-1 defeat to Tottenham in the League Cup semi-final, leaving him with a blood-stained top and a cut nose after headbutting him.
