The well-known Brazilian bodybuilder suffered a heart attack while training at a gym in Aguas Claras (Brasilia), according to local media.

A friend of José Matheus Correia, who was training with him, rushed the bodybuilder to a nearby fire station, but there was nothing they could do to save him.

The Brazilian, nicknamed Zé, passed at the age of 28 while helping other fellow bodybuilders prepare for a competition.

"It is with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of José Matheus, affectionately known as Zé. His unexpected departure left us speechless and with an immense void," the company said on its social media.

The brother of the deceased, Thiago Matheus Correia, has commented on social media that he was in very good shape and in iron health, to calm the rumours that linked his death to the use of anabolic steroids.
