A bus crash in Algeria has killed a player and coach from top-flight side Mouloudia Club El Bayadh.

Wednesday night

The accident occurred on Wednesday night when the bus, carrying the full squad overturned near Tiaret.

Two dead

According to reports from the Algerian state news agency, the two dead are 27-year-old goalkeeper Zakaria Bouziani and assistant coach Khalid Muftah.

Presidential statement

Algeria’s president Abdelmadjid Tebboune released a statement in which he noted the “great pain and suffering,” he felt when he heard the news.

Other injuries

Other members of the team were transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. Local reports suggest they all remain in a stable condition.

Suspended

As a result of the deaths, the Algerian Football Federation has decided to suspend all scheduled matches for this coming weekend.

Statement

The Algerian Football Federation released a statement in which they said: “Following the tragic accident which left the club and family of MC El Bayadh in mourning, the Algerian Football Federation has decided to suspend all football events planned this weekend”.
